Thinking of getting this for ps2

In my opinion, PES 5 and 6 were the pinnacle of the franchise. I've played a few of the earlier games in the new generation but never really warmed to them. Something about them just didn't ignite the excitement in me like PES 5 and 6 did.

Anywhoo, I was looking around online and decided I'd buy one of the older games again (lost my old ones ages ago) and dust off my old ps2, when I came across PES 2012, which to my amazement, was available for ps2 too.

Now I've read mixed things about PES 2012 for the current generation (360/ps3) but can't find any info about the ps2 version.

Do you guys recommend I get it, and if so why?, or should I opt for my old faves, PES 5 and PES 6?

Looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say.

How mad is this?

I myself last week unplugged my wankbox 360, and got the PS2 out of the box its been sitting in for a couple of years. I became fed up with all these new games, I just cant enjoy them, they are riddled with bugs, assholes online and developers who'd rather bring out premium DLC, than fix the very same buggy game THEY sold as hotcakes pre-release!!!

I couldn't enjoy PES 2012, so i loaded FIFA 12 up and got cheated and rubberbanded to death for the millionth time, so I load up MW3 and it gets ruined online, not to mention all the crap the devs are adding to the game, like sit rep pro, the list goes on....

So the other day I thought f*ck it, I'm sick of this. I dusted of my PS2 and have been playing PES6 ever since.

The game makes me smile so much, gaming is fun again! Shame that I have to go back 6/7 years, to enjoy games again.

The VERY best games stand the test of time and I can honestly say, I don't think any games out of this current next-gen, PS3 & Xbox 360 will.

However, there are plenty on the PS2!

I also downloaded a classic PES6 option file, that was made years ago by somebody who used to be on these forums, john lennon (when PES6 was booming) its got all of the classic club teams and national teams edited in the game.

It was legendary back then, it's still legendary now.

I could cry at how bad games are today, and as long as brainwashed idiots keep buying them and bending over for the developers, it's only gonna get worse.

^^^ EXACTLY!
This current generation is nowhere near as good as the PS2 days. The reason why these ps2 classics are selling like hotcakes is because the overall quality of the games back then were much better than they are today.

I can't play PES 6 anymore to be honest,I think when people talk about it being the best football game ever a lot of that is nostalgia.

Rubbish, people say its the best football game ever, because it was and is still the best football game ever. It's as simple as that. But if you think so highly of a game made 6 years ago, of course your going to be nostalgic, but people aren't solely using that as a means to say its the best football game ever.

I think people with there heads screwed on, know the magic of PES6. At the time back then, we took it for granted, we didn't realize just how good the game was, but we do more so now, because of all the crap we've had during those 6 years.

I don't care for 2012 graphics, I don't care for features gimmicks and modes, I care for playability and gameplay, its the reason why games are dire today, theyve become to complicated for there own good and as a result, are being overrun by all those gamebreaking features I mentioned previously. Scripting, Handicapping, Rubberbanding etc etc

PES6 does the basics right, and I enjoy it, STILL to this day, thats all I want. And if I cant enjoy todays games in the year 2012, I will play what I can still enjoy, even if it is 6years old.

The real travesty is, is that we haven't seen one football game since, even come close to rivaling it.

AS FOR PES2012 ON THE PS2:

From what I can see developers aren't paying much (if any) attention to the PS2 now, Konami aren't doing anything to the game for PS2 as the focus is on the latest consoles. Its been that way for quite some years now, they look to me like yearly updates of teams and players, but the gameplay has remained the same since 2008 on the PS2.

I wouldn't waste your money myself. I'd recommend PES6 and the classic teams option file that you can still download if you look around hard enough. You want John Lennon Classic Teams Option File V6.5

PES 6 WAS a great game however, we demand more in this period of time because PES 6 had the basics covered and it was just a simple football game anyone could master. It had simple gameplay with good animations and the more you play it, the more bored you get. Theres no life into PES6 anymore and whilst it can be fun, it turns dreadful the more you play. When I play PES 6 today, I don't feel the satisfaction it filled me with from when I first played it as it is restrictive.

PES 6 was a good game by last-gen standards, not current-gen. Whilst certain aspects of it might still hold up, I think rose-tinted glasses syndrome plays a massive part in all the "should play like PES 6" or "give us PES 6 in HD".
As time moves on, so does technology

Abu, why does pro evo 2012 just make me annoyed and frustrated?
Games are not menat to do that, im supposed to be rewarded the better I get but in pro evo 12 - I have had no reward, just cheating AI.

I draw a line when my player is slide tackled from behind without a football in sight, yet im given free kicks against me for out pressing (X and square) the AI in to a corner that it fiddles its way out of. :/ not having a go at you.

PES 2012 isn't fun and PES 6 isn't (anymore). FIFA street is the only football game I find fun

PES6 isn't funny anymore?

I had a smile from cheek to cheek when playing it the other day, never had this much fun on a computer game in years. It confirmed to me just how bad and lifeless games are today.

For me it wasn't/isn't the best - for me it's PES 5 - no doubts about it!!
Now only I don't play it on my PS2, but XBox 360 instead!!

It was the best but now, its far from it. Too basic for the modern game

Which proves my point about you. :)

You are hooked into the "modern" tech, when really, the only things that have improved are graphics and gloss. Controls have become more complicated than they need to be, even for this current tech, and gameplay plays very sluggish and appears rushed by developers, which then leads onto the gamebreaking problems we see in most of the games today. Scripting, Handicapping, Rubberbanding etc.

They don't care now, and the games ARE showing it, (although the brainwashed will fight till there death to deny that)

However, IMO, arguably 5 or so years ago, developers DID care.....and the games showed it, thats why they were so good.

All I can say is, if your genuinely happy with the current crop of steamy poo and use it as a means to blindly play down an older game, then carry on. If your so taken in by todays hype, then more fool you. But hey! Whatever floats your boat!

Just that, I'd rather be in control over my own controller first and foremost and play a game thats down the middle and well made. Not something that has to go through a scripted/delayed system in order for the button input to manifest itself on the screen.

Graphics/licesnses/gloss/gimmicks are merely just an added bonus/feature and they are the one thing, that SHOULD improve over time with tech development. Gameplay however needs attention over everything, and at the moment, its not getting the attention it needs, therefore, modern games aren't getting the attention or money from me.

Can someone please answer choobakka´s question? I am also quite interested in this - why is this game (PES 12 for PS2) better than PES 5 or 6?
