Thru balls WTF?

Thru balls are terrible this year. For starters they dont go through, they just go slightly ahead of the player. And because the player only jogs along side he would of been better off being passed to feet. They normally go straight to a defender first anyway.

It seems to be impossible to direct them this year. They just go where they want.

Over the top through balls dont work either. They launch them far too far or not even far enough to get over the first man. It sometimes works if you do it from defence all the way through to the striker.

Ive stopped pressing it now it's too error prone and random.

I think thats why the computer AI does so bad at attacking, because he is trying all these thru balls and is struggling worse than I am. The AI can't learn to stop using them like I can.


Has anyone figured out how to use the thru balls this year?


I also want to know why if I try to normal pass to a player who is above or below me it always goes to a player forward or behind me instead. This used to happen once or twice in older peses but seems to always happen on this one.

Hi, i don't know how to teach you in using through ball. But one thing for sure the through ball in pes 2010 just brilliant nd realism( IMO ). i'm really satisfy when my AM able to make a nice through ball to my upfront both striker. I believe the through ball system not so perfect when apply in overhead through ball or winger play.

I'm ps3 too top player and that is about the only time it works.

Any where else and its so random its not worth risking it. Over the top thru ball don't work at all except down the middle from your own half.

Over the top through balls works but hard to do. You just have to have a good passer (like in reality) and a good CF with great offside run (he will not be in offside positions)/ You just have to press it the right moment. But 1 thing. Do not make them through the middle because they won't go too well. bit to the side of goal works much better.

That might be the problem. The players arnt good enough, I only use the lower teams.

But still I think they should be able to make a simple through ball over the top or down the line once in a while no matter how bad they are.

I agree. In order to succeed a thru ball you need to have a good passer. If you try to do it with anybody, it will fail. And I think this makes it more real.

Ofcourse they should and they can, but it's harder to make it happen with lower teams. This is more realistic.

Another thing that it seems to help is to press :R2: just after you pass the ball with :triangle:. I read this tip in one thread here in the forum but I don't remember who posted it.

Anyway, it works for me. Try it.

Have to be honest, ive had my criticism of this game particularly online but I think the through ball is back to its best so to speak. It now feels good when you get it right, in previous versions the thru ball was just used as a get out, now it needs skill and timing, however I accept it is a bit frustrating if you are using lesser players from smaller teams and they cant do it which is harsh !

i was fed up with my BAL teammates wasting posession with lofted through balls to no one but last time, i ran into the box from the inside left position and the ball was chipped over me from midfield and i was unsure what to do as the defender was right on me.

i tapped shoot, maybe halfway between the corner of the 6 yard box and the 18 yard box. my guy hit it on the volley across the ground and it went in the bottom left corner past the keeper who must have been re adjusting position as he had turned round and had his back to me.

when i shot i fully expected it to land in row z but i couldn't believe the goal.

on the other hand, every time i try to play a through ball myself it is too hard and the runner has no chance of reaching it.

^In what way does pressing R2 help?

It seems that when you don't press R2, the ball is too long. It goes to the keeper or it crosses the touch line.

When you press R2 the ball looses a bit of the weight and it's more likely that your player gets it in time.

though balls are great in this game, with the right formation and timing they're DEADLY! time it right and get the right angle for the pass. Didnt know the R2 either! thx for the heads up!

In master league, you master your team and you make the formation, so you become more used to your team and through balls are definately deadly. So I think with practice you will become better. Because in ML you need practice to understand your team and players.

I can't really press those 3 buttons at the same time, not with my button config anway.

I tried with a stronger team and on the deck thru balls do work more often, but it has to be a certain situation, you can't use it as another pass button like you could on older peses. I suppose that is better really. In the right situation it works almost every time.

Over the top thru balls only ever work from deep to the striker. Little dinky thru balls never work.

This game is a lot more enjoyable if you pick a stronger team, most of the response problems and clumbsyness is gone. Its just a balance to find a good team which isnt 2 good it makes it 2 easy.

I usually play as Man Blue if I'm not on BaL, I find their teamwork simply amazing and yes, through balls are dodgy 60% of the time, I usually run down the wing with Wright Phillips or better yet Robinho, for pace and then cross it in to Adebayor or anyone tall... still getting of my feet in ML, Unbeaten so far in my first 5ish games, I've been on BaL far too much this season... Top player difficulty on both... I'm top of the League atm with a low goal difference, as my usual tictac is to pass around fuck loads then hit on counter attack... works a charm, but I never thrash anyone, not even Wolves...

True. The response times are always an issue though. This is a priority of what I want fixed.
