Tightening Up Long Passes

I've noticed that when I'm playing using the d-pad, it's hard to aim my long passes precisely. Unlike short passes, which seem to be auto-aimed by the computer, long passes seem to go only in the 8 cardinal directions available on the d-pad. If I've got a guy 22 degrees to my left, for example, I have a massively hard time hitting him with a long pass, whereas I could hit him easily if he were, say, 45 degrees to my left. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have any options other than playing with the stick or using manual passes?

Kewell, if that Sevilla team is your master league team, that is a great team. I have got or want at least half of those players

use the analog stick. i dont even use the dpad, analog all the way, 360 degree aiming baby
