Top Player Impossible

Been playing a few matches, mostly Cups on Top Player just to get a grip of the game before i delve into a Master League and i'll have to say this - its FUCK-ING IMPOSSIBLE! Dont wanna toot my own horn or anything but i can more than hold my own in PES - i have been able to since ISS pro on PsOne, but this game is nearly impossoble at this level. Basically if the COM wants to win and break your streak, it will. It comes down to AI issues that Konami have not taken to the next level, in fact, they have taken i step back. Instead of making the COM defend better, be better positionally etc, they just down right cheat.

Outline of a few things up theyre sleeve -

Free Kicks go in at a rate of around 75% - even from players who have no FK accuracy.

Defenders will outrun/ run you down no matter what. Robinho against a shiite arse Peruvian defender - that's just BS!

Passes, through balls etc have a mind of their own. They will not go anywhere near where you directed them to. I had an overlap with Ronaldinho steaming up the wing, ready to fly onto my through ball and hopefully equalise after a conceded a a f*cking penalty, only to see the ball got directly in front of me, into the path of a defender...

Your own defenders will lunge in with a slide from the back at one of their attackers in the box, even though you press A (X) resulting in a penalty, red card and match lost....

I jumped on, selected Brazil, just so i could win the damn thing with a bit less hassle and ended up having a pretty poor experience. It seems that instead of increasing the COMS AI in harder difficulties, they deplete yours and score cheat, hack at will.

Oh yeah, and i would glady accept a battle from anyone to prove that im not a complete retard, but the online lag is so piss poor that even that is not an option.

Hopefully my experience will improve, but it's got a long way to go from here people.

Have to agree that its very hard to string together passes and they seem to go all over the place at times and the CPU seems to be able to close you down in an instant. Have only had a couple of friendlies AC vs Inter though and won both by 1 goal margin

I find it easy to score, but very hard to keep my possession above 45%. Even poor teams like Fc Basel seem to be able to hold the ball and close down better than in PES6.

im playing proffessional to get into the game but i have had a few games on top player in exhibition.
i was barca against random opponents and i beat them all, most quite comfortably, including a 4-1 win against man u.
player stats actually seem to mean something in this game, unlike pes6, so if you have good players i find that you will do well. thats what happens in real life too.

i have noticed the poor possession though, mines starting to pick up now. you just have to get used to the passing system

I play on Professional and thats about my level at the moment. Top player sounds hard I am going to try it tomorrow and see if its really that difficult.

What do you expect? To win easily in Top Player after having the game for a few days? Geez... It always takes me a while to adjust, and I consider myself a good player. Well said... there's even no off screen arrows to indicate were your player is.. its piss poor and i'm bored already, what a let down.

I never said anything about wanting to win easily. All i'm really after is a game that doesnt cheat me out of actually PLAYING how i want to play and more to the point how i AM playing. It just feels so much more out of your control this year. And as for having to "adjust" i agree to some point, and this is something that i have always had to do as well. But i don't want to just adjust to the bugs/glitches/cheats or whatever this game has, because that is essentially what you are doing. You learn to beat the game.

All i'm saying is that is extremely frustrating when your player (completely on his own accord) lunges in from behind at the COM conceding a penalty and getting sent off, or your passes are completely ill-directed at critical moments of play.

If i was getting beaten by quality sides playing quality football scoring quality goals i would be happy. Instead, i'm getting cheated out of the game by dodgy script/code within the game that Konami calls "AI" and bases their difficulty settings of how much it cheats you.

On the other hand its very off putting when you play on any other difficulty and the defence parts like the red sea, allowing you to run 50 yards towards goal and score... Very unbalanced:no:

When i was playing the demo i was playing on regular so that i could get a feel for it and play the game on Top Player, as i always do. Plus it was only 5 minute matches which are never are true representation of how they are going to play at 15 min IMO.

i noticed they have rediculous speed on slow players including unlimited stamina when on top player.

I started a league on top player with Inter, at first I was winning kinda easy but now its getting alot friggin harder, have to relplay most of my matches now

ive played quite alot over the weekend, all on top player. I have to say i've not been winning all the time, but i never do when i first get pro evo. It's not pick up and play like fifa, and that why we love it, cause you got to put the time and effort in. You probs just think the com is cheating, cause you're getting frustrated. Give it a few more weeks and you'll be sund!

I'm glad they've improved the top player standard now, used to be piss easy on pes5 and 6 and now you actually have to try, com is very good attacking now from what i've seen, they can spot a through-ball whereas the simple killer pass used to be ignored in the old game. Don't think you can be too annoyed if you ain't rolling over the top teams within the first week. Practise makes perfect as they say

play on professional then. did you not get bored of constantly winning,it seems like your complaining more about losing than the AI,losing seems to have annoyed you,if you were winning against it i dont think you would have made this thread,even if it was still cheating.

anyways,im still on proffesional as it is more challenging,teams like man u are rightly so hard to defend against. i have no complaints about the AI in general.yet.....put it back on proffessional and if you keep winning then be a average team and not brazil......my two cents

Been there already, that's standard PES. I think that you, like me, are a little grim because they didn't tweak these issues in this release of PES, which was supposed to be a big jump forward. Yes, I feel like that too, it's just that I've calmed down since that first impression. The game is enjoyable as it always was, but I agree that gameplay-wise, they don't seem to have put too much work on it. Only some minor changes.

Actually, as I have posted earlier, sometimes the AI can blatantly let YOU win in Top Player, and that's exactly what it feels like: their defence parting like the Red Sea.

Yeh I suppose, in hindsight may have been a little harsh... But I've had enough of the complainers, enjoy, what is, an absolutely brilliant game!!!

I find it so ridiculous that people make a judgement that you are shit at the game if you complain. Sean isn’t complaining cuz he’s shit or he keeps losing, he’s complaining about the insane amount of AI cheating this version of the game has. Every single PES has this stupid scripting to it, where your players simply do not perform no matter who you are or who you’re playing against if the game decides you aren’t going to win.

I’m playing a master league with Man U on Top Player (Getting a feel for it before the decent patches come out) and playing FC Basel the other day, they scored a header from a corner (nothing new there) but only after fouling my man in THEIR area just as I was about to bury the ball in the bottom corner, clearing the ball 40 yards straight onto the head of some tiny player who beats Rio Ferdinand to the ball with a header through Rio’s chest, the ball deflects off one of my players (fast as fuk, mind you) to their player on the wing who controls it perfectly, dribbles a bit and hits it from about 30 yards, and then Van Der Sar inexplicably parries it away instead of comfortably catching it to give them a corner. Same old sh!t.

This was after about six minutes. I then played the entire game hammering them yet every shot I had was weak, every header I went for I was beaten to it, and every through ball to a player on the wing near the half way line, went closer to their full back! I eventually got an equaliser through some sh!t way I can’t care to remember. And it ended 1-1. I was so frustrated, I loaded the game again and played with exactly the same formation and players, and easily destroyed them 6-0! What’s that all about?

Playing against my bro is far more fun, although I still feel some bugs or lack of control at times, it’s much better than playing the computer – I’m not sure I can stand the master league this year, probably continue my fully patched PES6 one!

Konami need to realise that this is a new age now, we have next-gen technology that can create AI capable of actually beating us with skill and attacking flair – the code HAS to change. I can’t believe that my hopes and expectations for PES are shattered each year, none more so than this one. (Don’t say play FIFA either, it’s utter wank on the PC (can’t speak for Xbox360/PS3) we all know it) Why do they insist on cheating? Do they really not know how to make the PC actually play better, to beat me fair and square?

I don’t mind losing either, I don’t like being cheated though. It’s not fun to play, when it’s luck of the draw as to whether you’re going to be allowed to do what you want or whether your players are going run like they’re wading through treacle. Has anyone noticed the amount of times you press a certain direction on the pad when controlling a ball and your man does some silly little pirouette around the ball so your opponent can nick it? Drives me nuts!!! It’s unacceptable, and so is the fecking jerkiness. I’ve got a 2Ghz processor, 1.5gig Ram, and a 512MB X1950 Radeon card – it is just as jerky on the lowest setting and resolution as it is on the highest settings – it’s bollocks. Sort it out Konami.

I could go on, but I can’t be arsed. This is already far too much!!

has everyone forgot about the adaptive AI. if you start winning in a certain way ie. possession football, long balls, or jst dribbling with messi, the computer learns this tactic and adapts to cut it out. so they will start to close you down quicker, play a higher line or mark messi tighter. just learn to vary your tactics game to game.

and on the subject of the cheating computer. there is no way the computer cheats more on this game than on pes6. this game is a very drastic improvement. the computer just plays better football than it used to
