Even if you are the best team in the master league rankings, they are still not likely to come.

Though what you can do...

When you get to a transfer period.. goto the options in the master league options and turn auto-save off.

Then try you lowest offer for him....
Then if he rejects try ya highest offer....
If they accept, reload and try a medium offer (between the two)..
Keep trying until you find the point that they do...

(obviously, restart the master league every time it doesn't happen for you. It's quite a dis-honest way of doing it, but so what... i doubt anyone cares that you tried 3 or 4 times to get the player you want.)

Also, sometimes the player just wont come... i'v tried offering the highest money possible with the highest salary with all 5 years of contract plans, and 4-5 players have always said NO.. even though i have 140 WEFA points.. (about 50+ of everyone else)
Also for the players i wanted i tried to exchnaged equaly/ if not much better players for them.. but still they wouldn't accept it.

It's just basically trial and error, but if you really wanna keep trying... try the "turn off autosave" option..

'players that turned me down no matter what i tried' :

Robben,
Nijkamp,
Ibrahimavich (SP?)

'Players that took a season to buy'

Gerrard
Lampard
Ronaldinho
Sheringham ( i never got Sheringham ) , cos by then i realised it wasn't worth pursuing the respawned players too much, cos they got good anyway.. will try and buy him in 6 or 7 seasons time. Am on season 2014 at the moment. Sheringham was bought by West Ham as soon as he respawned, from what i've played against him, he will link up with Shearer v.v. well.

If your press right on the D-Pad when you're in your list for negotiations, you'll see stars appear next to your target player's name. If the stars are greyed-out i.e. there are none in yellow, you have to offer the earth to even get a sniff. If all three stars are yellow try a cheeky offer and it may well get accepted. Basically 0 stars = highly unlikely, 3 stars = very likely. If a player has one or two stars you will get them with a reasonable offer.

Most of the time, you'll have more success simply paying more money, and NOT trading a player. The AI seems to prefer straight cash over a player and cash.

I think the results are quite random unless your offer is simply way off the valuation. Try saving and reloading in your offers during mid-season and you'll realize that.

I don't agree that the AI prefers a cash deal over a trade. If you already have the stars showing, you can put a player in as a trade and you will be able to see whether the stars change. Sometimes they go down which obviously means the club don't fancy a trade, but if they stay the same they'll probably go for it.

For example, I just off-loaded Zalayeta (who I got for nothing in the close season) to Valencia in exchange for Vicente. Zalayeta was worth more, but only by 8pts or something tiny like that, so I offered 500pts as a token gesture and they accepted. It was a two star deal, so it was relatively likely, but considering I offered next to no cash, it was a bit of a coup.

One of my favourite tactics is to sign the 'Newcomers' with the highest salary in the first available negotiation week, wait til they're available to exchange and then swap them for established players who might be a little cheaper in terms of salary. This way you only have to pay a minimal transfer fee to get the clubs to agree the deal AND since you don't actually pay salary til the end of the season, it costs you nothing to sign the Newcomer. Basically this allows you to sign top players for minimal transfer fees. Technically it's cheating, but you'll get the ML team you want a lot quicker. I just swapped a young Spanish AM (can't remember his name) who's salary was 1200pts for Albert Luque and paid something like 1500pts to seal the deal. Crafy!

Me personally i just offer the most i am willing to offer to them and sometimes i offer them money and a player in exchange for the player i would like.

Usually all i do if trade but with the extra cash you have to give on top of that, add on a couple of thousand.

By the way, if your on 6* or 5* its harder to sign players. In off season, take the star rating down to 1*, put in an offer, once you get your man, crank it back up to 6* and there you go...

lol, i cbf bargaining, as on 6* it's quite hard. I just earn heaps of money, then heap them on a club - 9/10 i get my transfer :D.

Yeah, I do what Koller said about lowering the difficulty for negotiations, though I confess that I normally play on 5 stars as opposed to six.

The player trade thing often doesn't work with most teams.

So for example, you can't offer Ronaldinho plus money in exchange for Sneijder. And it's due to Ronaldinho's wage demands being sky-high compared to a player like Sneijder's.

So always keep that in mind.

Hopefully then if you did try to do that you should hope Ajax have been doing good in the league or champs league and not buying any players at all. Then that transfer could go threw.
