Yah at times i think that we are expecting too much. But are we really? considering that this is 2012...........there is no evidence suggesting that these game developers are doing their best they could (Fifa and Pes).

For example most Pes fans have been asking for the ability to change clubs as a manager for so many years, i dont think this should be a daunting task for Seabass and company............just my thoughts

We as humans do expect to much. It is just a game and everyone should just try to enjoy it...I think its quite good, But then again i do know Fuck All

I haven't been bothered to play football games for a while and this demo 2 of PES 2013 reminds me exactly why. Flawed to the core. It's so fucking simple and I cannot believe that in 2012 in this era of technological advancement, Konami cannot achieve one simple thing......

Develop an A.I system in which teams are capable of playing in multiple different ways and challenging the user.

I download this demo and I'm quite looking forward to it, until it takes me about 5 mins to realise that AI teams play exactly the same whether its superstar or professional level.....the result........Big sigh, press start, return to menu, exit demo and probably delete and let me tell you, thank fuck my xbox doesnt have a recycle bin so I can think about resurrecting this shite.

Please someone tell me i'm missing out on some special menu option that makes teams play differently, because otherwise the game is pointless.

PES 2013 CPU AI in a nutshell : pass ball to AMF or CMF

Run Run Run Run Run Run, through ball to striker
Run Run Run Run Run cut back /cross

End game.

Also, the morons at Konami have yet again made an A.I where it completes about 90% of passes every game, put the game on a high level, the CPU barely misplaces one pass for fuck sakes.......this is basic football fundamentals here, they have done well to create system which means I misplace passes......that's what i've been asking for, for about 5 years, but the CPU AI still does near perfect through balls and passes every fucking time, not every team can play this way......alot of the time Konami, games are bitty and scrappy with teams struggling to string together world class triangles, let alone every team in the game being able to do it.

Mate that's what the vast majority of old school PS2 era fans want, but unfortunately, the level of depth that is required to offer a passing system in which you have a 50/50 chance of sending a perfect pass or fucking up, is not possible with the D-PAD SYSTEM that both Konami and EA Sports are still using today.

I really hope that a third party can show up by the time the PS4 comes out, because it is pretty clear to me that both Konami and EA Sports will continue releasing outdated PS1 era D-PAD video games for the next 10 years, easily, because they know that people (unfortunately myself included) will continue buying the same old D-PAD bullshit with the same old problems.

I could complain very strongly and accurately about the many deficiencies that both PES13 and FIFA13 will have, which are the same fundamental deficiencies which we have seen for the past decade or so, but honestly, should I expect anything better?

Unfortunately, I don't think I can, expect anything more than a D-PAD high on drugs which is then marketed as "360 degree control" -- take note, about the fact that neither Konami nor EA Sports have advertised their "360 degree dribbling" as "analog control", because they know it is not analog control, they know that they are selling a 360 degree d-pad and they advertise it as "360 degree movement", and they will continue to do so for many years, I'm afraid.

I no longer look at a video game, expecting to be pleasantly surprised, I used to do that back when I didn't analyzed and acknowledged the actual mechanics of the game (falling prey to the illusion of process just because of fallacies that are passed on as logical reasoning), but not now, now I know that one year is not nearly enough to undo something that's been in the making for over a decade, a tested and proven formula that is both cheap and profitable: not going to change anytime soon....

I already know that the game will be shit, so I'm not expecting to be pleasantly surprised but instead expect to experience various levels of disappointment and indifference, now I find that I've developed a bit of a skill for distinguishing between the various levels of shitness: shit, not-so-shit, almost-average-but-still-shit, very-shit, legendary-shit, etc. I'm probably going to buy PES13, play it for about one week, and then never touch it again.

Sad ):

Why are some people saying the 1st demo is better than the 2nd? Seriously?? Come on the 2nd demo is sooooo much more fluid and enjoyable than the 1st! It reminds you of the old pes. Try on field side camera makes for a much better experience!

If you play the game just for the sake of scoring in every attack if possible, you destroy the game for yourself because the AI seems to be affected by how you play. If you play "hawaii football" the AI tries to emulate you. If you want a game that is truly challenging and realistic at the same time, you will have to wait forever. However if you sit your ass in the couch and play the game with the aim of playing great football, keeping a sensible balance between possession and attacking/counters and scoring fine goals, you can have much enjoyment of this game.

Why not realistic and challenging you say?
Because the AI will never be smart enough to be challenging without massive "cheating" which creates a lot of annoyances and makes the game inherently unrealistic. And I'm talking about sensibly recreated "realism" here, or "as little arcade as possible" if you like.

It's only a game! Get over yourselves!

It's a business, it's not a game, no business is ever just a game. And for the record, I'm not loosing any sleep over it.

I agree with that, that's why I buy the game in spite of being more disappointed than pleased by it (considering how much better it could be), because I know it can provide some entertainment.

But I would be lying if I didn't say that I am mostly disappointed, due to many reasons, mainly because real analog control still is so far away, and it is almost 2013!! I mean, nobody would have thought this would be the state of PES, had you asked them back in 2006.

Yes, removing the sprint button and using the stick as a direction and speed throttle would make sense, but it would also be quite hard to move around at a desired pace in the heat of battle with a "real" analog movement control.

Personally, I'm positive about the demo. I've lowered my expectations considerably last few releases though, but it's nice to be positively surprised every now and then for a change. Either way, I expect some real bitchy annoyances to surface once the full game release... at least that would be perfectly common practice by Konami.

Well I am quite convinced that if "sprint" was affected by the analog, then it would not actually be real analog control. Real analog control is about precision, it should have nothing to do with pace: dribbling, passing, and shooting, should be massively improved, due to the superior capacity that the analog offers in terms of storage for dribbling animations etc; however, the speed at which the player runs with the ball should not be determined by the analog, because then it would compromise the very reason why real analog control should be implemented in the first place.

The sprint should always be attached to one of the shoulder buttons, preferably the pressure sensitive shoulder button.

Anyways, like you I have lowered my expectations considerably with the passing of each year, but I would be lying if I didn't accepted that I do still feel disappointed in spite of my lower expectations. Though, having said that, I haven't played any of the PES13 demos so far, so for all I know I might be pleasantly surprised, though I suspect that no matter how good PES13 is, I will still feel disappointed because I think the core mechanics of the game should be full analog as opposed to the 360 directional d-pad that PES13 (and FIFA13) is.

What I can say, though, is that I was pleasantly surprised by the positive reaction from many reliable sources. If enough people buy the game (which wasn't the case last year), we could have a PESGaming League this year, would be cool.

EDIT

I forgot that you basically hate consoles....

I agree with your assessment of the analog stick, a much better than my initial (and relatively hasty) idea.

Console games promotes lower quality games due to the common practice of porting from consoles to PC, a practice that does not do the PC just in terms of visual quality and technical depth. Menus are usually poorly designed, and settings are limited and everything is dumbed down. The console game audience is generally a more action oriented crowd than PC users, they want fast paced games with virtually no learning curves. Instant action and instant success, games that is tailored to play if you have 15 minutes to spare as well as a whole evening, something that is virtually impossible to combine, honestly. And notice that I say "generally", I don't think all console gamers are like that.

Look at the evolution of Assassin's Creed for example, in the first game you had to think a little bit and not just rush in for the kill. Everything wasn't plainly laid out for the player with fifteen easy ways to kill each target. But the game still had a failsafe in, as you couldn't really fail either. You either managed the kill as an "Assassin" or you had to chase the target around town like a clown, but one way or another you progressed to the next mission. AC1 is a console game, but the series evolves into a graphic novel without any shred of difficulty and real gaming experience.

Already in Assassin's Creed 2 every little bit of difficulty was removed from the game. There are virtually unlimited approaches to every kill, or alternatively you're being railroaded into one single and easy option. I still like the series, but I prefer the first game despite its lack of finesses from the later games.

Lastly, I do use a XBOX360 controller when playing PES. I don't hate consoles because of the controller, but I think I used keyboard up until the 2010 version, possibly 2009 version.

I'm not after a long discussion about console vs PC games to be honest. Most PC games today aren't really PC games either, so the battle is lost anyway. If you disagree with me, that's perfectly fine and nothing you say can convince me to change my mind about the matter either.

Stay safe, have fun and let's just pray PES2013 is an entertaining game despite certain unavoidable flaws.
