ok, I'm swedish, but I seriously find Olof Mellberg from aston villa very underrated in pes3. I mean, he played for racing santander in la liga for a couple of years and was the number one defender, then he went to aston villa and is in my opinion clearly the best defender there, he has been voted villa's best player two years in a row by the club itself and isn't he the captain of the team too (..?), a team that has a possible chance of reaching champions league (ok, it's a long long shot, but they could...)? he is great in the swedish national team, stopped crespo, batistuta, lopez and whatever the argentinians put in front of him during the 2002 world cup, and is definitely the number one defender in sweden now when patrik andersson (bayern münchen, barcelona) is winding down. he is just a rock solid defender.
I don't have his stats right now, but I remember he for example got a lousy, or at least average speed rating, and he is really one of the fastest defenders I know. maybe he hasn't shown it very much in villa, but that man can run. he has a powerful header too, has scored a few in the national team at least on corners and such, and he beat up fredrik ljungberg on a national team training a few days before world cup 2002 :-D (did anyone see the footage of that? mellberg gives ljungberg a mean sliding tackle, ljungberg gets up and pushes mellberg, he grabs ljungbergs shirt and lifts him in the air and throws him to the ground, but then a lot of other players leap in to stop the fight... freddie needed to be brought down from his high horses...).
just look at the last game villa played, mellberg scored the gamewinner (yes I know vassell got the goal, but I don't think it hit him, it's extremely hard too see on the images I've seen at least. mellberg's shot anyways) and ruled the defense pretty well. he is great defender.
and the appearance of him isn't very similar to what he really looks, in the game he doesn't really look like a vicious viking with mean beard and stuff.
I notice because I've followed him for a long time, first in the swedish league, then in spain and england and in the national team and he is one of my favourite players overall. I'm a bit partial maybe, but I still think he is rated too low.
and speaking of swedish players, I think magnus hedman (celtic) is a bit overrated in pes3. he has a pretty mean rating I believe, don't remember it but keeper skills over 90 I think. it's pretty strange in the swedish national team in the game because young goalie andreas isaksson, formerly juventus (at 17 years of age!), now djurgården (swedish league champions, barely lost against partisan belgrad in the champions league qualifier), has a pretty crappy rating compared to hedman, but irl he is considered to be the number one keeper in sweden. lower hedman and raise isaksson, I say. but I guess I am the only one who really cares
