Was PES the first game to have a "be a pro" type mode?

i've seen a few posts discussing PES2009's "Become a Legend" mode and people have pointed out that the idea of "fixing" to one player was in PES before it was in FIFA and i was just wondering if anyone knows whether PES was the first football game on any console to offer this mode or whether it has been around on different games for years.

I dont know when the "fix" option appeared in PES but i do remember playing a game on the playstation called Libero Grande (released 1998) which was entirely based on controlling just one player- was this before or after the first pro to have a fix mode, and does anyone know of any earlier games to have the mode? (I am aware there isnt much point to this thread, i'm just vaguely interested and very bored at work!)

This isn't about the Fix option, its about the whole "having a career as one player" and that was in the Japanese version of Winning Eleven.

He talked about FIX modes in early football game, so I gave him a game with it in.

I personally couldn't care less who came up with the Be a Pro mode first...

konami came up with the first "career mode" back on the N64 for International Superstar Soccer 2000.

personally i thought it was fantastic and wished they kept with it and expanded the RPG elements to it. it was a fantastic little side to a solid football game.

as for fix, thats been on Pes for a while but as mrernie has said it's been on other games to.

Hmmm....maybe a few years from now career mode will be quite advanced....i can just see it now....

press O to snort a line of coke...
press x to refuse and leave the FA Party...

Press X for the speedy Aston Martin...10 style points
Press O For the Safe Ford Fiesta...2 sense points

Press x to impregnate a pop star...
Press o to build a relationship...

Game over....you crashed your aston martin on the way to the match whilst high.....try career mode again...

A la GTA IV, you must go to the stadium with your car, by yourself, even if you have to run over some fans of the oposite team.
You can check your email in a café, if you have new contracts; have appointments with your agent; hit him to have a pay rise.

At the end of trainings, you can burst tires of the cars of your teamates so that they arrive late at the next training > easy to start the next game.
