Whats your favorite football/soccer game & version?

I am a long time PES fan, but was disappointed when they dropped the league mode. So I tried FIFA 13, and am actually enjoying it at first glance. It seems like its gotten better than the "get a fast winger-cross it-score everytime" versions several years ago.

So I went to the EA FIFA forums to look around, and saw that everyone over there HATES it. And it seems a lot of people on this forum hate PES.

So... I was wondering what your favorite football game is, and from what year. I want to go back in time to find one that seems to be enjoyed by a lot of people. I know PES 6 seems to be in that discussion. Is there anything more modern (from either PES or FIFA) that was well done?

Thanks, and I'm not trying to inspire any "I hate FIFA/PES" discussion... just trying to find a good game to invest a lot of time into. cheers.

Favorite football game of all time, that I've put the most time into by far is Pro Evo 5, branded here in the US as Winning Eleven 9. Incredible game that was so variable and fun to play deep into career mode while still being interesting. Aside from that, I think Fifa 10 is probably the most fun modern football game.

Thanks Eric. Are there any modern option files for something like PES 5/WE9, or do people with older versions have to update rosters manually? (I know that isn't a big problem for those who mostly play ML).

Hi there

I recommend PES 2011, BAL is a stunner, ML is good too, both mode are durable to play...like you wanna play it forever. played it in
August before PES 2013 was out.:D

WE9LE is by far the best football simulation I've played. Tactically, strategically, technically and on the pitch, the game simulated the real thing better than any other game, and it is very fun to play even now. I don't say that it is perfect but it is the best so far. If I want to count the features and little great things in it I would need to write a very very long article. These features are not in any game but PES6.
Anyways, I also owned an old Ubi Soft or Take Two (can't remember) Champions League game (can't remember what year) that was somehow good but it had a game breaker keeper bug that ruined it, I don't know why the company don't invest in reviving it, as I think any football game (especially from a well known publisher) would have a huge chance of success.
-a little off topic but couldn't hide it-
