OK, I cannot really play this game I have to admit. I have just played a full hour on five star against chelsea and failed to score. However, I only conceded three goals in that time. So I must have the defence bit sorted.

I am doing what expected pass pass e.t.c but obviously I am missing some vital points to progress.

I could stick with fifa which I have easily mastered but its with pes that my interest is with.

I have even read the pes guide and it boasts 101 special moves which I think is overkill for a video game.

So what essentials am I missing? one/twos, specials skills please help.

Keep it simple. Pass to players who have space. Don't turn right into defenders. When recieving a ball with an aim to pass it again as soon as possible, hold R2 and the direction you want to pass it to next, it will turn to face that direction quicker and with the ball in close control ready to instantly pass the next ball, then when your player is facing the right way hit pass. One Twos are one of the better ways to get through on goal. If you get the ball with a forward, hold L1 and pass it to the nearest guy possible, your forward will sprint off towards goal, leaving you to time your through ball to him. Through balls are one of the most important buttons for attacking, play the ball as your forward is on the shoulder of the last man. Don't be affraid to leave it too late that you might get caught offside once in a while. 4 out of 5 attempts probably wont make it. But the 5th one will play you nicely through for an attempt on goal. Try and get an early goal if possible, it makes them have to push up leaving you more space to play in behind them. If you're doing over the top through balls (L1+Triangle), do them at angles across field. Doing them straight over the top often makes the ball run to the goalie. Use shot fake alot (square_X) to get passed people. you can do them quite early and they still work, letting you run round that defender, obviously the closer you can do it to them the better.

Some matches you're just never supposed to score, sometimes you jip through and scrap it into the net, but you'll soon learn the matches that will annoy you, so just play through them and wait for the next one. (that's if you're doing MasterLeague). Remember the computer will cheat you alot, it's not you being crap. you won't be able to do alot of the things that they do, just stick to what you can do and what works. Don't feel that you can't turn it down a difficulty level, you'll soon be tired of whomping the 3 and 4 star opponents and want to move back onto 5star. Transfer all the things that you've learnt and practiced on 3/4 star, and implement them in 5 and 6 star. It's the same game, but you just get less time on the ball and they will stick to you more. It's just a case of working space. A good formation can make alot of space easily for you. If you want to play a crossing game, play wingers with attacking arrows high up the pitch (in formation settings under "individual"). Also when you're setting up your formation, look at it from an ingame point of view and try and see passing networks. Look at possible routes you can take starting from a goal kick. Goalie-Defender-DMF-SMF-down the line-CF-GOAL!! lol.

It's just a case of practicing, even on a lower difficulty level. Everything should become instinct after many a game. And remember some games you're just never meant to score, they're called away games. lol.

Brilliant advice. Thanks for taking the time to give me such a detailed answer.

Will use your tips when I play. One of the problems for me is that I am using a Logitech controller with the PC instead of the Ps2 one everyone here seems to use. When you see all the special moves they are written for the ps2 controller and it is hard to translate that to my Logitech.

Just played a game and won 3-0 on 5* just got lucky I guess.

Thanks again for the advice.

no problem. the only thing i can now say is...

When you get good, don't be suprised if you find yourself busting controllers. cos every so often it will give you a game where every shot will hit the post/crossbar, and they'll end up scoring without having a single shot, always in the 23rd minute of stoppage time. Narcasism(sp?) is a horrible trait when blended with pro evo 5.

Other than that, enjoy the game.

You get the best times playing with the CPU when it gives you a touhg opposition. After that it gets too easy :)

Just enjoy the learning experience, it's really satisfying when you get better every game.

You guys rock! I've been playing on 4*'s for the past 3 days and have just been stifled offensively. Thanks for all the tips. I just thought I was complete rubbish, but perhaps that's not the case... then again... :)
