Which settings to use on the PC?

Hi,

I'm having quite different results in response time, by altering my graphic settings.

My comp is decent enough to reach fps limit (63) in every resolution, so fps is not the difference.

By altering resolution, v-sync and frame skipping, I get very different results....

So far my best were at 1152x864 (4:3) with v-sync and frame skipping off.

I played 2009 in 1440x900 (16:9) with v-sync and frame skipping on.

But now with that resolution I feel I don't get a decent response time.

What are your experiences?

What about response times?

Try playing in 1152x864 (v-sync and frame skipping off) and see if you feel any difference?

P.S: LB are the black bars that appear on top and bottom when you don't use a 4:3 resolution.

I have 24" samsung 16:9 hdmi lcd monitor with 20000:1 ration what ever that means.

does all them settings suit me then.
i thought the more higher i went the better hence 1920 compared to 1152.

ill try now

i tryied just then on various settings i like my 1920 by 1080 with vsync and frame skipping on looks the best and seems to run better aswell.

my graphics card is a Radeon 4850 1gb - are they any good?

20000:1 is the contrast capability....

Thanks for helping out!

The 4850 is quite on pair with my Geforce 9600GT.....

Mid-to-low end graphics cards.... more than enough to run most games on high settings... but with limited capability for the near future....

what are the specs on your computer. my mate gave me my graphics card because he upgraded. i just checked ebay and the card he gave me is worth around 150 to 200 bucks gees.

i like the look of the new 5890 radeon. do you reckon the graphics are better on pc than xbox or ps3? i reckon they are, maybe i sit to close to my screen lol.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-Sapphire...iewItemQQptZAU_Components?hash=item20adc68f74

looks ok. all i need is some spare cash.

Mate, the 4850 is a great card and is the ATI equivalent of an Nvidia 9800GTX+/GTS 250. There is no need to upgrade.

As for response times, you can't measure those. They all depend on your monitor or TV. Around 5 ms response times is good.

I'm talking about in-game controll lag...

My pc hasn't the most powerful of graphic cards but it can handle the game to a playable experience. (60fps on medium)

Usually on 1280x720 16:9 , v sync on and frame skipping on (full screen)

but today I decided to try windowed mode at 800 x 600 , v sync on frame skipping on, just to see if the response time will change, and it def did..... much better response time .

So now after reading this topic, im doing 1280 x 720 4:3 , LB checked, vsync off frame skipping off, and im getting a pretty decent experience, as far as the response times go, its pretty fine, but i must say it was muchhhhh better on the 800 x 600 setting in windowed mode,,, but who wants to play it like that.... not me

Well if you're using a mouse, v-sync causes mouse lag some in some games.

The response times are iffy to begin with due to the additions of 360 movement, tougher dribbling, and some increased animations. A player has to get into proper physical position before passing, shooting, etc.

if im gonna buy 9800gt its worth for pes2010 or just get gts250?

The 250 is better than the 9800GT. The 250 is a rebranded 9800GTX+ but smaller, uses less power, and has a larger heatsink. A 250 and a 9800GTX+ can be SLI'd together.

I was hoping someone would confirm my findings!!!

It is now clear that control lag is definitely related to the resolution you use, and in a lesser way to v-sync!

I'm still trying to find the perfect balance of resolution and v-sync....

I must use v-sync because of the flickering....

P.S: The game is capped at 63 fps, 60 fps if v-sync is on... if you're getting that, it means you're playing the game to the max... so that's actually good.

Well if you're using a mouse, v-sync causes mouse lag some in some games.

I know all about the 360 and all that, but that alone doesn't justify the differences with using different resolutions!

Well, finally found something that works for me!!!!

In "settings":

1440x900, 16x9,LB unticked, v-sync ticked.

In NVIDIA control panel:

I created a profile for PES 2010,

Anistropic filtering: 16
Antialiasing - Gamma correction: Use global setting (on)
Antialiasing Mode: Enhance the application setting
Antialiasing - Setting: Use global setting (Application controlled)
Antialiasing Transparency: Supersampling
Conformant texture clamp: Use global setting (Use Hardware)
Error reporting: use global setting (off)
Extension limit: Use global setting (off)
Maximum pre-rendered frames: 0
Multiple display/mixed GPU accelaration: Use global setting (Multiple display performance)
Texture filtering - Anistropic sample option: Use global setting (off)
Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias: Use global setting (Clamp)
Texture filtering - Quality: Use global setting (High Quality)
Texture filtering - Trilinear Optimization: Use global setting (off)
Threaded optimization: Use global setting (on)
Triple buffering: on
Vertical sync: Use global setting (Use the 3D application setting)

Don't ask me what was the deciding factor... but I guess it must have been a mix of max pre-rendered frames at 0, triple buffering on and v-sync on (in the settings).

I'm so glad I finally sorted it out!!!!

Well I decided to try out your settings, I already had messed with all of that before, but never put max pre rendered frames to 0, so I decided to try it, and....

the response time is def BETTTTTTER!!!!!

good job man on the experimenting because it has definitely payed off.

If people are having trouble with response time and all other lag related issues, this is the thread to look at.
