Why do I suck so much?

I'm trying to improve but I can't!
My son (9yrs) beats me easily! And while in PES 08 I could always win against the PS3 at regular level, now I struggle to do so.... PS3 defenders at regular level are quite difficult to pass... you must be very very precise.
Moreover what really I can't do is to shoot a missile keeping the ball "low": is there a way to achieve that?
Another hardball: when trying to goal from a corner shot, all my players hit the ball with their head. Slowly. They suck! Is there a way to strengthen head shots or let the player kick the ball?
I'm testing for the first time "unassisted" cursor; seems better; what cursor do you use?

Thanks!

Timing is all there is to it when it comes to headers and volleys.

as for shots, ill try to draw a diagram for you.

right footed player run up; >-----\(shoot)

that means, just before you wanna shoot, release the sprint button and turn slightly towards the foot you want to shoot with, and tap the sprint button to lay off the ball ready for a shot.

tapping (5-10% power) the shooting button will then lay off a hard, low shot if you hit the ball cleanly.
Around 45% power bar results in a rocket usually.

ps. skilled players are adapt at shooting while sprinting, at the cost of accuracy.

Practice is the only thing you can do. I'm also on regular. But now, I'm going for professional as I'm winnning most matches easy.
Also try the double pass, the through balls and be creative in your attacks and never hesitate to risk a long ball. Sometimes, your attacker will end up 1vs1 with keeper, then use the R2 after the shot to place the ball.

I'm disappointed because the matches always end with 55 to 60% ball possession to my side, but my team EASILY loses the ball when close to the other team's goal.

Also my son is much more effective than me when defending... it looks like he has a future glass-ball, knowing exactly where I'll be placing the ball!
What makes me crazy also is the way he can take the ball away from my players...

The trick to hitting a belter from distance is like one of the lads said all ready, the timing. While sprinting onto or with the ball try a quick tap (quarter power) rather than holding down the button just before your shooting foot is coming into the correct position.

Best way to master this is by working a few one twos from outside the box in practice mode.

Use a feint. Press square and then X.. You player will make an impression that he'll shoot the ball, but instead, he will do a feint and the opposition will get confused. Also master the tackling for defending and use X and square to make pressure.

THANKS THANKS THANKS!
Things are getting better, much better with your advises!!!
What should be explained since the beginning is that the players behave like reality: there's always a little lag between the decision in the brain and what the legs to... the key looks to be PREDICTION.
When defending, you MUST predict where your opponent is going and switch the cursor a nanosecond before the opponent will pass the ball. At least you must keep the pace of your opponent.
Long passes and pass-through seem to be better: they're more difficult just because chances are the opponent will grab the ball, but if you're lucky enough, it will reach the attacker.

One question here, very often when doing a long pass or a pass-through, the receiver, although very close to the ball, will not receive the cursor and will run away. Does it depend on the cursor type? I'm using semi assisted.

Another question: many times when some "wings" reach the end of the field (attacking), they cross the ball right in front of the opponent's goal, but there's no teammate ready to shot... it's like if the team is not following your game....

Last question (today ): when defending, many times my players can stop the opponent attack, stealing the ball; as soon as this happens, although I'm forcing them to move, they hesitate 1 second, just enough for the opponent to regain control on the ball.. Why is that?

^Question 3. It does happen but not very often. Use a more skilled defender. I guess it depends on the player's reaction and how good he is.
Question 2. Sometiems you have to wait forr the players to cross.
I don't know about question 1. I also use semi assisted and sometimes I have to press L1 or LB button to change the player closest to the ball.

Q1. That's what Supercancel is for. Look it up. It cancels the AI's movement and allows you to manually control the run of the player. I had issues with this but supercancel is much better after practice

Q2. Like in real life, wingers are usually the quickest players on the field. Therefore, they'll run the length of the pitch quicker than other player. Try and use dribbling skills, change dribble pace etc while running down the wing. Or try a one-two with then full back/inside midifielder to trick the defender and allow play to catch up. This will allow others to keep up.

Q3. All to do with player stats I suppose. Every defender has their strengths and weaknesses. It's your responsibility to make sure a 'weak' defender is not isolated. Easiest way to achieve this is to have your midfielders man mark key strikers/wingers. They will then track back and allow you to double up quickly on attackers.

True. However, when playing against the PS3, attackers are always at the right place
I thought there was a way to tell your teammates "ATTACK!!!"

When you pass the ball from say a winger to a midfielder hit R1 before they receive the pass and they will then make a run up the wing for you to put an (overhead) through ball to them.

When on a counter other than the DMF and defence I hit the R1 after every pass, so by the time you reach their area you've a ton of players.

N.B. Some will run back to their regular positions if you don't get the ball to them quick enough and they run out of space to run into.

I pretty much suck too at pes 2009, at times i just don't know what to do too improve myself. I tend to like passing the ball about in midfield, but then allways lose possesion and find myself chasing the ball, which ends with me giving goals away.
I wish i could find a decent formation that enables my players to get forward when in possesion, and get back when i lose possesion.
