Why do I suck so much?

I pretty much suck too at pes 2009, at times i just don't know what to do too improve myself. I tend to like passing the ball about in midfield, but then allways lose possesion and find myself chasing the ball, which ends with me giving goals away.
I wish i could find a decent formation that enables my players to get forward when in possesion, and get back when i lose possesion.

While 1 touch passing is a factor in the game try using the R2 button to trap the ball occasionally, wait for a player to move into space then pass, if you're closed down just turn around and the player closing down hits your back. Also learn to switch the play from side to side, you'll find you have a bit longer to pass the ball. Another option is to pass from the midfield out to your winger with a 1-2 and as the winger passes it back tap the R1 button to start him on a run, then play an overhead through ball to him. The flanks are your friend and in those situations even if you lose possession they'll only have the ball beside their goal area, which is a great place to close them down and force a throw-in.

As for your players moving forwards and then tracking back have a play around with the tactics pre game, alter the formations a bit and see what works, even if it looks stupid it might work for you.

Edit Formations and Strategy so the team will play closer as you would like (attack minded, counter attack, low on defending at least for 3 players upfront). That and try to adjust your timing on the cross would help a lot.

Yes there must something also on the lineup... when you play against the PS3, the PS3 defence works perfectly and the attack is ready to go...
When I play, (I must admit I don't change the lineup accordingly to the opponent), my defence many times is too high, and the attack too low!

Would be nice to know what are the minimum adjustments that should be performed to play decently

i play 4-4-2 with two wingers, 1 DMF and 1 AMF

CB, RB and LB + DMF all high on defense.

2 strikers and 2 wingers plus AMF is low on defense and high on attack.

That give you plenty of options going forward but also give a cover for your defenders..... just my 2 cents

Head into the exhibition mode and try it out, pick a mid range team vs a top team stick it on regular difficulty and see what happens.

I tried a formation last night, it appears as 2-4-3-1 on screen basically using the '4' with 2 DMFs' and 2 WBs' it sounds strange but unless they attack via the wings you have 2 layers of defence for them to get through, for this make sure you have fast wing backs.

Don't try beat the defender with forwards unless you got Messi, Kaka, or C. Ronaldo. Pes09 change the system that it is more difficult to beat the defender by speed.

haha i like the term supercancel, makes it seem like something from streetfighter

what makes it super anyway? but for some reason i catch myself using the term supercancel in PES years before, and it became a habit. my guess is because people like me, and others, grew up with fighting games.
