Why do so many people not like PES 2008?

Just wondering why so many people really dont like pes 2008. it was the first football game i played on a 'next-gen' console and its almost the best football game ive ever played, (behind fifa 99).

whats it got that deserves comment s about it such as "laughable disaster" and the "worst pes title to date", etc

To me it's not really that it's bad. It's just it hasn't improved from the previous title. I still do enjoy it & infact I'm playing it now. Dunno bout how it compares as a next-gen game as I'm playing on PS2, don't have a next-gen console yet.

Far too easy to score and dribble past players even on top player difficulty with players that aren't even known for their dribbling skills totally killed the A.I

The only good game you could have was playing with poor teams

Agree completely mate, I loved PES2008, Was still playing it up until a couple of days ago (got the PES2009 Demo), It's a brilliant game, only complaint I had was the lack of edit mode, thats all sorted for 2009 though, Roll on Friday.

Compared to other Pro Evo's it was a disaster. You could pick up the ball with any player and basically run the length of the pitch. Players stamina was rubbish, meaning you had to rest top players every 2 matches. It was so easy to smash shots in from anywhere, or simply run down the wing, pull the ball back, and slot it past the useless keepers.

Pretty much sums it up.

I love 2009 though, feels so much like Pro Evo 5 but spruced up.

I didn't find the dribbling system that bad, but, I didn't just pass the ball to someone and just run at the defence. I prefer to get the ball down and pass it around, and create openings for myself.

I also don't get how so many people dislike PES2008. It wasn't the best, but, it certainly wasn't the worst, and didn't deserve the criticism it received by so many.

EDIT - of course, the online lag was disappointing, and this needs to be fixed. This was my only real problem with the game.

I dont think the A.I was shit the abillity to run the length of the park cancelled it out but if you played with two shity teams that couldn't run fast the A.I was ok

It's crap for ps3 but I still played it a lot :erm:
The graphics are horrible and it is so laggy offline. Long balls really really suck and there's a huge ball magnet on the sidelines.

The ps2 one is really good though and the pc was smooth and sharp. Never tried 360 one but from videos it seems smooth.

Definitely the worst Pes by a longshot.

i thought it was an ok game certainly not a some people stated. yes there was lag issues and framerate and other glitches but this was pretty rushed when it came to making the game.

Was playin it on sat night with mates after a few demo 09 games and i thrrahsed my mate 7-0 but on the demo i only beat him 2nil. maybe it was easy to score.

One things for sure is that i never cut the ball back for an easy tap in as we as friends banned that move and if it was carried out u would have to let ur mate score.

Considering how s***ty PES2008 was, it's a great bounce back.

Good graphic, new moves, new modes

BUT

Very easy to score (lousy goalie),
very hard to score because strikers are so sucky at times (often missing clear shots),
very easy to score with headers,
very dumb AI,
long shots are weak many times (unlike previous PES),
AND despite of the weak shots
they go in (very lousy goalie)

Pro Evo 6 is the best Pro Evo ever.

2008 and 2009 just take out the fun for me. I play the PC versions btw.

Pro Evo 08 and 09 are the same game really, just a few tweaks in 09, it is really frustrating to play really. Agree with post above, with goalkeepers being really lousy! that was annoying as hell. Also when you see the players run, they look like they have something stuck in their ass and they run like robots!

Top Player is not top player at all. And unless you have a powerful PC you can not experience the full game!

Thats where Pro Evo 6 has everything right. From decent graphics, to easy editing of kits/appearance and the classic theme it had that has been used in PES4 and PES5. 08 and 09 try to be too modern, all futuristic and doesnt look like a football game.

One thing about PES6 is that it is fun! You can unlock dinosaurs and penguins lol! Wheres the fun feature in 08 and 09!? it seems that they have taken out good things from PES6 and released it in 08 and then only fixed those bugs from 08 in 09!

Frustrating. Thats why I dont like it, and yeah, I just prefer PES6 on the PC.

Now there are some fanboys on this thread, but I'm just telling the truth. It's ok for others to like it, but don't hate on me for not liking it. I just feel 2008 (and 2009) are really lacking in terms of gameplay value.

And although I'm not really into Fifa, I played 09 and it feels more fluid...and its an OK game to play. Id prefer it over PES 2008 and 2009 anyday.

love the pace of it ,long shots ,one touch passing

hated the online lag ,cutbacks and idiotic referee

but through all the fustrations of it ,i still wanted more
