Sometimes I just don't get certain reveiwers/fans comments? What actually is it that they want Konami / Seabass to change about this game?
Ever since I started playing the Pro Evo series, ISS 64 to be exact, I fell in love with the whole feel, look and immersive gameplay that this game bought to the genre. Up until this, FIFA was the best footie game on the market since its debut on the Megadrive, following on to the PS1. For the first time, Konami made you feel totally in control of nearly everything you did on the pitch, from the control of the ball to the little flicks or tricks you could pull off to get that much needed goal. Ever since this game they have made little tweaks such as animations, cut scenes, different game modes etc, but have always stayed true to the overall feel to the game that made it so good in the first place. As the same with everything else in life, there are only a certain amount of modifications you can make to something without giving it a complete overhaul, or starting again from fresh, which in essence would lose what made it so great in the first place. FIFA for example is now a totally different game from 5 years ago after undergoing a complete graphical and gameplay overhaul, and it still cannot encapsulate what makes Pro Evo all that it is to us lovers of the game.
So the point I am trying to get across is this, lets all be happy with the little improvements that we get out of the game this year, of which i'm sure there will be many, enjoy playing with the new players bought in to our favourite teams, enjoy the moments when you pull of a new little trick or a slick move with animation that looks better than the previous game, but most of all appreciate how lucky we are to be playing such an excellent game and faithful rendition of the game we all love. Football.
It could be so much worse, imagine if Konami went back to the drawing board and lost some of the magic that has been Pro Evo for years and bought out a totally new game which just wasn't as good as the last 8 or so games in the series, you might end up turning to Fifa as it might slightly remind you of what Pro Evo used to be............. See U online on 2009! (fingers crossed they've sorted out the lag)
Enjoy!!!!

Miggy said it best when he said this:

The worse thing to ever happen to PES/ISS is converting all the FIFA fan boys. When they realised how superior the game play was, they've moaned about licenses and what not, still do, and it's now become the biggest focus of the game.

I had some of the greatest games of football that a computer game could offer with players like Larcos and Facu.

I'd like them to all go back to FIFA and leave us in peace.

I really enjoyed PES 2008, I seem to be in the minority on messageboards in saying that though. I'm not sure why, I thought it was a great game and I've played the hell out of the master league.

lmao i second that opinion Kempo. Me and my pals have also abused it, many a tourny we have had. We obviously feel the lag in the 2on2's but we're used to it now. Its unacceptable but PES is the only Football Game worth owning imo :)

Same here to be honest. I loved PES 2008 and still play it today, and will still be playing it right up until the very hour that PES 2009 is in my hands.

could not agree more

Totally agree with all you said, grew up playing fifa and the discovered pes 5 and have never looked back, don't really care about licences as they don't improve game-play and game-play is king in my book, improvements in graphics are welcome and i think neccessary. Really looking forward to pes 2009 but have to say one of those who loved pes 2008.

I have loved PES for a long time but 08 was rubbish! I ended up playing FIFA more last year and can appreatiate what both games offer, as much as you guys say it is, i don't think the gameplay is that bad, yes PES is better but it's not as if it's unbareable. I think FIFA's season mode is better IMO and you actually get a decent online mode which should be standard for next gen gaming.

Im looking forward to the new PES i just hope it's not the same as 2008 gameplay which frustrated me every time i tried to play it with it's dodgy defense and dreadful goal keepers. The only good thing you can take from 2008 was there improvement of free kicks.

I have only read a few reviews and it does look better than last year but one mag said 2009 was purley an upgrade of 2008 which worrys me slightly.

thing about the goalkeepers is in the last year, keepers have been shit, fumbling anything, so in theory seabass made a great keeper.

better than fifa keepers diving into the top corner full stretch to catch a 90mph shot
