The basics are zyg:

You need is: (If you want to set it the cheapest way)
An Xbox
BROADBAND internet

An ethernet card for your PC
A network crossover cable (you can pick these up cheap)
These two items you can bet from specialised computer shops pretty cheap, or if you dont know one then you can get them from Dixons, Currys (but i wouldnt recomend them from there as they do jack up the price)

Plus the XBOX LIVE starter kit (£40 and comes with a headset and 12 months subscription) only a few shops seel them so buy it from a GAME store

The site Ogopa posted (xbox.com) was the one i was going to sugest, which is pretty handy, it tells you a few ways you can set up your xbox online.

I think ill get myself a second hand X-Box as i dont have the money for a new one...
See when you buy the X-Box Live Kit, are you paying the subscription then or is that later?

Plus, i already have two computers connected up to broadband through the router. When or IF i get an X-Box do i still have to turn off my router and modem as i know both my PCs both surf the internet perfectly?(touch wood)

I think you can pay monthly but 30-40 pounds is a yearly subscription,and you get a headset included in that

Can you recommend some links or shops for where to get these items from? (edit your above post to add the new info).

So far I have an XBOX and broadband. Need info for where to get the ethernet card, the crossover cable and the starter kit. Cheers.

Zygalski, you can get a CAT5E(Crossover Cable) from any computer shop and the prices go like this:
1M: £5
2M: £6
10M:£10
20M:£20 (It all averages about a £1 a metre)

A network card is about £20(wired)

An X-Box Live starter kit costs £35-£40 and is best bought from GAME.

The First two can be bought from any computer shop, but your probably better going for quality and going to PC World.

I have heared that the gamepads in Xbox are crap. I like to connect my playstation 2- gamepad to the Xbox... There seem to be some interface for that, can somebody give a link about that?

Forget about PES 4 online:

Today I made a phonecall to Konami Benelux, because I wanted to know if I should buy an Xbox for playing PES4 on-line:
The answer was clear and simple: There is no on-line gaming for XBox and also not for PS 2 or PC. So DON'T buy Xbox if you only want it for PES4 online.
It's simply NOT true!

I also asked when PES4 will be released. Here are the data:
Playstation 2 = 14 oktober
Xbox and PC = 15 november

Thanx for the good news. :p Anyway did they tell u why the couldn't put PES 4 online? Still anyone who's readin this if your planning to get an x-box with live and all dont let this miner problem stop u their other games we can play as a community.

P.S.Han do me a big favor can you find out whether PES4 will be to system link on the xbox. ;)

If PES4 supports System Link you will be able to play it online using one or more of the tools in the previous post. Note....You will need to run the Utilites via your PC. So you need your PC and XBOX connected at same time. (or at least you do with xbconnect).
I will try others out during the week.
