Well, the modchip damages the laser of the machine after a while, and it stops working. That's what happened to my PS2 with the Messiah. Take the xbox to a store and change the laser.

Bollocks! how does a chip affect a laser??

Get on eBay and look for a replacement DVD drive. I recommend a Samsung one as they will play almost anything.

You will need a torx 15 and 5 screwdriver to open the unit if you haven't already got them.

eBay has loads of replacement stuff for Xbox's, I have sold quite a few DVD drives myself.

Chip affects a laser? And taking it back to a shop will do nothing because you opened it and voided the waranty, they will laugh at you.

I'm talking about the shop he got the laser from, clever man. I know about the warranty. The chip does affect the laser, my PS2 with DMS 4 Pro won't play certain types of DVD-R's because the laser part is damaged. Try either way, change the laser or buy a new DVD Drive.

The lens (laser) isn't very expensive on EBay, so is a DVD drive.

Shop he got a laser from? He has chipped his Xbox not built one from parts.

Your also talking about a PS2 not an Xbox. He asked about his Xbox.

I know that. The shop he chipped his Xbox must be replacing the old laser with new ones.

Oh man you're not very smart, are you? It's the same case, and I gave an example from my system (which is a ps2 not xbox). Usually the chip damages the laser after a while, and you have to change it. When did you get it chipped Fig?

I don't see how a chip effects a laser! I have been case modding, chipping and repairing Xbox's for the best part of two years.

Depending on the laws of his country and yours I doubt very much that he had it chipped in a shop, majority of Europe won't do this at retail level because of the legalities involved with copying software and how easy it is to do so and run copies on a chipped console. At best he paid a small fortune to get it done by mail order but more than likely a friend done it or he chipped it himself.

I also don't see how you can stress an opinion on this let alone offer advice since you are on about a PS2.

And don't call me "not very smart"

I would say, oh man you're not very smart
The chip does not cause any damage unless installed incorrectly. That is even a rare case. The writable media you use, damages the laser. Cheaper media puts extra stress on the laser.

I take it you have Evolution X as your dashboard?

Is this where it is telling you it can't reconise the disk?

The chip damages the laser eitherway. The guy needs to replace his drive or the laser. I don't get what the fuss is about.

The fuss is that you are claiming a chip damages a laser which it doesn't! Where ever you got your PS2 chipped obviously saw you coming as they cashed in on telling you that you needed a new laser when really the PS2 only likes certain types of media. A chip cannot affect a laser! a chip is a BIOS replacement for the consoles original one! that is all. There is no mechanical parts involved with a chip and it certainly doesn't dictate how a DVD-ROM functions as the DVD-ROM it's self is a seperate mechanical part that is only connected to the motherboard and not the chip.

Also you are offering him advice on a completely different console and suggested he take it to a shop this would waste his time as he would be told they could nothing for him.

That is what the fuss was about, there is a lot of people on this forum that know lots about console modifications and I am sure they would all agree that a chip does not affect a laser as they are in no way connected to eachother.

Right, there were a lot of problems getting GTA SA to run.

Since you are running it off of a disk you need a fixed default.xbe file.

A default.xbe is the Xbox equivalent of a PC's .exe file.

I have GTA SA running off of my hard disk although I never play it much but I had to adjust some settings on my Evolution X dashboard to get it running.

Since your Xbox is just a straight forward chipped one with no additional software installed it is hard to correct the problems.

Ok thanks but no other tips??
I've read about the eject trick hack.... what is this??
I think its when we can eject the disk without resetting the system.... I tried that I put the Pro Evo 4 disk then with the game loaded I've put the GTA SA put nothiing happens only the stupid xbox saying it cant recognize the disk :( ...

I've tried to install the EvoX dashboard from a CD-R but once again the day was fucke up by stupid "cant-recognize-anything" xbox.
