Well they finally did it. EA made a better football game than konami.
each year they were getting closer but konami have handed it to them on a plate.
I am not gonna bore you with a review on both games, you can go anywhere on net and find most reviews in favour of fifa08.
what i want to concentrate on is personal experience,
each year the 2 games in question gradually improve most aspects of there games, that is until next gen came along.
although EA seemed to of thrived on next gen, konami have struggled big time, 1st with pes6 then promising us bigger and better next time.

these days the most fun part of the game is to be able to play online.
fifa08 Within 2 seconds of clicking your button you have a game to play, and very very rare have i ever suffured any lag.

PES2008 on the other hand, you press the button and ten minutes later your still waiting for your first game, perhaps konami think that if they keep us waiting long enough PES2009 will come out and we wont get to play pes2008.

For some unknown reason if you go to an unranked match you seem to get a game quite quickly, but you will wish you hadnt bothered.
online gameplay is very poor, and most games become totally unplayable, due to the ball flying about all over the place there are so many faults i just couldnt list them all.
its not like the very first online games, where lag meant games running slow, this is like the opposite where things fly around at 100mph.
you go in for a tackle in the 6yard box and the ball ends up on the half way line, i scored a goal that hit the back of the net then came out again so i shot and scored again and it still didnt give a goal.
all the problems i dont think are down to just lag there are many bugs there too.
i always buy fifa and pes each year because i like footy, but pes always comes out on top.
my brother only buys pes he would never even consider fifa,
me and my brother play online regular as we live 130 miles apart,
we spent 3 nights trying to play PES2008 but it was an utter joke,
today i had the shock of my life, turned on xbox360 signed in my brother was online and he was playing FIFA08, i couldnt believe it.

The truth is he is a hardened footy fan who owns a console purely for the footy game PES, He has only ever bought PES
this year he hasnt give up on konami, they just havnt provided a game that is even remotely playable online, and not wanting to play just the old familiar master league for the next 12 months, he has turned to the alternative.
Now if my bro has given up on PES2008 and turned to fifa, then believe me, konami have no hope.
I just hope people think twice about buying pes next year, i no i will.
KONAMI arnt bothered this year they have already got everyones money. i just hope this isnt the end for PES forever.

Going by your post I thought the poll would be which game they prefer to play online. I have played a couple good games online with PES08, but that's very very rare.

I personally, would never play FIFA even if it was the last football game around. I will not torture myself with the way EA think football games should be made. But that's my opinion.

If PES08 doesn't get a massive patch, then it looks like I'll be playing good old Football manager 08!!! Which is the daddy of all football related games, whether or not you can play or not, it owns them all! The way its set up, and its consistency. Football manager is a prime example of how a game should be made. Its as realistic as it can be, and very enjoyable at the same time. It doesn't need next gen graphics to sell.

Edit
Damn only just realised this is for 360? Oops lol...

Well, I think it can't be discussed that TECHNICALLY, FIFA is a better game than pro. A couple of years ago, FIFA was the buggy game and PES the flawless one. Now it's the other way around. But which one is a better football game? It's still PES, no doubt, but FIFA is very good this year and can definitely hold its own against KONAMI's alternative. Another leap forward by EA and non-movement by KONAMI next year could really turn the tables.

If you seen the pile of dog shit that 2 player PES is.....then you wouldnt be saying that.

Its not just that PES hasn't moved forward......Konami have actually fucking broke it.....badly...

Even though FIFA is unresponsive and frustrating to play and is not without its own brand of lameness, at least it somewhat resembles a solid game of video footie..... that doesn't instantly descend into a game of who can exploit the destroyed game engine the most.

Surely Konami cannot leave the game engine (never mind the lag probs...fix those later) in the same state when they release the American version in January. Whatever about it that they fix, they owe it to all the mugs who rushed out and bought MESS2008 to allow the yank version to be freely downloaded as a patch.
