Hi all, am a newbie to the PES game, in fact pretty much a newbie to modern football games (last one i played was the daddy, swos). only just got PES 09 for the PS3 but havingsome trouble with shooting, no matter how lightly i tap the i seem to sky it. I do score but probably sky it more times than an orient striker.
I have been trying to find a proper manual as mine is in spanish (yep live in the land of sun, sand and cheap fags). Am I missing something on the whole shooting thing?
Would appreciate any pointers and if anyone knows where i can download an english manual, if thats allowed, i would appreciate that too.

Go to youtube and type in "PES Guide"

There will be 10 or so videos on there including shooting, crossing, passing, etc..etc...

Those are ripped from the official PES Guide DVD that comes with the guide itself.

Those videos should go a long way in answering your questions, but if after watching them you still have problems then ask us some follow up questions.

Shooting is tricky... there's a lot involved... naturally the best results are going to be achieved by players with a good "Shooting Technique" rating, which means that they will shoot very well even when pressured by a defender.

As far as skying the ball you can try to hold R2 while the power gouge shows up and you will take a better shot, but with less power...

Generally speaking you want to keep the power gouge bellow 50% .. more like 30 - 40 % is ideal for most situations.

Also important on what foot you use to shoot with.. using the players stronger foot will naturally yield better results.

Either way, there's lots to it, so I would strongly recommend checking out those videos and then seeing how it goes. And go to training mode... practice there a LOT and you will see results.

Hi mate, thanks for the reply. Yeah thought of youtube as see some other posts on here where people had posted their goals etc, bloody youtube not working for me though for past couple of days....bugger

Will try what you said about the R2 when shooting. Definitely tricky as some of my shots have been great, couple cracked the bar and did score a belter. I know not every shot will go in but even though i think that i am releasing the button at the right time the ball ends up being picked up by radar.

Hopefully youtube will be back at some point to check out those guides.

Yeah I'd say that if you feel you are ok with the power bar and you fire one that still hasn't landed yet, there's a good bet you had a defender in the vicinity and your shooter did not have the best "Shoot Technique" stat... the higher that stat is the better your shots will be when you are under pressure... and lets face it, at least on the higher difficulty levels you are ALWAYS under pressure

Also the most effective shots are the ones where you have a running start, and just drill it.. if you aren't moving fast or standing still you'll have a difficult time shooting anything well .. it will just be a limp dick lob that floats too high type of thing.

One techinque you want to get accustumed to is the fake shot techinque, where you start filliing up the bar to shoot but then quickly press X (pass button) and a direction to fake the shot and dribble around the defender... works very well.

Another thing i tend to do alot that aint been mentioned is to hold the analogue/D-pad straight towards the goal through the powering up part with R1 held where possible and then add an actual direction just as he's about to strike. I find that helps alot when wanting to get a romper shot that'll stay down. My guy in 'Become A Legend' only has about a 73 power stat but i hit rompers all the time with him doing that. Works for me anyway

howcan you manage to press the d-pad/left analogue, shooting button, R1 and right analogue at the same time?
