Goalkeeper

Hi there,
i concede a lot of goals online from opponents running at my goalkeeper, and then make a quick feint to trick the goalie, after which they score. The goalkeeper does not give much of a challenge, since he automatically storms out of the goal (also makes it easy to chip him). Is it possible to let your keeper stay on his goalline, or at least prevent him from running forward?

Take control of the GK, that's the only way (that I'm aware of anyway). I've read about this same problem with the GK AI on other PES sites. It's possible goalies' Aggression ratings or something are causing this behaviour, and need to be lowered. Don't know if that's an option for you.

Just checked:

Switch by hitting LB + down on R stick for PES 2011. Probably the same for 2012. Very clunky way of programming that BTW.

It's in the controls manual -- back button or RB + something else (don't have my game/controller in front of me).

If its in the manual, i'll check it out asap. Do you have expierence whether this help preventing the keeper get tricked or chipped?

EDIT: Okay, thanks!

It gives you control over the GK, meaning if you get beat it's all on you. ;)

Use sparringly -- very difficult to control the keeper like that, has been my experience.

I'm really puzzled why the CPU-controlled GK would rush out on its own, when there's an off-the-ball manual control to move your GK forward (Y button on Xbox controller). Very strange, very screwy.

Does it mean you have to perform real diving saves as well? Or are you just trying to choose a good position. The controls to do this indeed seem a bit strange..

It rushes out every time he gets in a 1v1 situation. That in itself is not a bad thing (in real life keepers do the same, but in the game it makes them real easy to trick. Since it is difficult to aim your shot, I rather have my keeper stick to the goalline more.

My suggestion: go into a game (or practice if possible) and play some team that is going to take a good number of shots on you. Use the vertical cam to get a good behind-the-GK view. Take control of your GK when they attack and see what the controls allow you to do and not do. I think doing that will give you a good idea as to whether this is going to help you with your GK issue or not.

So on one-on-ones, maybe take control of your GK, pull him back so he can't be chipped or run around, then take control of a defender and let the CPU control your GK for the shot.

All that will take timing and practice no question.

I will definitely try it out tonight, if i dont forget it, i'll let you know how it worked out:). Those 1v1 siutations always happen online btw, so I guess I'll try to control the keeper in trainingmode, with that camera position you suggested. And then I'll see if it works out in online matches!

if we take control of you goalie do we have to perform a save or is an auto-animation? I could see myself taking control and watching a ball roll past. I don't believe Konami has an action button for any other goalie control.

You dont have to perform a save, but you can prevent the keeper from rushing forwards. Unfortunatly, I just read somewhere this "controlling the goalkeeper", does not work online? Though I can hardly imagine this being the case, can anyone confirm this?

It doesn't work online but i only use it to position my keeper in free kicks as the spu are deadly accurate with them.
I don't mind online because it is harder for a human to score a free kicck with pin-point accuracy

Well that's just great. First they royally screw-up the GK AI. Then the only means you have at your disposal to fix their screwed-up GK programming is taken away from you online, EVEN THOUGH THE OPTION IS AVAILABLE IN THE GAME. There's a word for that: sadistic.

I think lowering the goal keepers aggression should help. Maybe you could ask pategato or chimps because they are the experts it seems to knowing what all the stats do.

But why does it not work online? Did Konami give an explanation, because I thought it was integrated in PES 11?
