Which team are you playing as? If you're a strong team, weak teams will play defensively against you.

I've had one penalty in 350+ games. It's just a bug/glitch in the game. Scoring with the default stance from free kicks is virtually impossible. Cronaldo and Pirlo's stances are much easier to score with.

This is just speculation, but I've noticed my player gradually moving forward in the line up in the tunnel. When I started he was always the last onto the pitch, but now he's usually fifth or sixth from the back. Perhaps the ordering in the tunnel is an indicator of seniority?

A new OF can change kits, emblems & player appearances in an existing game, but it will not change rosters or player stats.

When you skip games you miss out on match exp (red). You still get development exp (green). Depending on how well you play, you can get 20-25 match exp each game in certain stats, so it's worth playing as many as you can.

They control AI behaviour, so they wouldn't be much use. The * cards were poorly implemented anyway, since only the most well-known players have them, so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't bother (or forgot) to add them to BAL.
