I think you have to go to your Console Settings, then Memory, PES 2008, and delete them from there. That does the trick for me. It's a bit annoying, and I wish you could do it in-game, but since I don't know how to do that, deleting it that way isn't so bad.

I sometimes try playing it online, but there's never anyone on, and if there is, the gameplay usually sucks because of connectivity problems. I think someone told me a while ago that if the two people playing have different speed connectivity, it can get laggy.
