I think its dependant on your game. Not all the re-gen players will arrive at the same time, some will be earlier and maybe not as good as other peoples.

There should be no problem with your online play if you change the game. The online system reverts back to the default settings that come with every game so any changes you make to your teams in your game will not be transferred to the online part, as is the case with nearly all online games.
