When you take free-kicks, do try to put dip on it as well as swerve (i.e. pressing diagonal/up & side)? I noticed on FIFA 10 that curves only qualified if you just press side (i.e. swerve with no dip).

You can improve him both online and offline, but I think some improvements are excluse to offline (not 100% sure on the exclusivity).

It depends on whether you are successful in completing the required tasks that increase your stats. You can play the game of ages, but if you dribble past two players, but you need to go past three, you won't get the points. I hope that makes sense.

I've had plenty of problems when trying to play Head To Head online. The most common one seems to be similar to yours. I would sit there for a while, not being able to select a team, but it won't let me quit. I'll be selecting to leave the screeen, but nothing happens unless I wait a minute...

I've improved my VP's physical abilities, which appeared to me a difference in the one game I played, last night. Most notably, his stamina. I was able to run around for much longer, which is important for my role. I might come on for a few games, after the England match.
