You're doing something drastically wrong. The DirectX installer will not ask you for a directory, it will find the previous version and update it unless you are trying to overwrite it with a previous version in which case it will do nothing. I also don't have a Program Files > DirectX...

Ignore the manual. Try and run the DirectX setup on the PES6 DVD. If it is a previous version, it will say you've already got a later version. If the manual is wrong, your problem will likely be resolved.

A previous version of DirectX will never overwrite a later version and it will tell you that is the case. Go to the Run... option in your Start menu and type dxdiag. That will open a window which will show the version of DirectX you are using.

Maybe you have DirectX 9.0b installed and not 9.0c? Either way, run the DirectX setup from the PES DVD.

Make sure it is the only thing you are downloading at the time. Sometimes if you are downloading a large file from a not-so-happy server and accessing other pages, it jolts itself and belives it has completed the download when it clearly hasn't. Happens to me sometimes when I'm not even doing...

Same here. I like the concept of the controller and its much cheaper than an XBox or PS3 but I'm not going to buy it only to play one or two games on it and leave it to gather dust like my PS2 is.
