10 years on: Happy Birthday Dreamcast

09/09/09. Ten years to the day that the Dreamcast launched in the west. A console that for me, was the beginning of the true console revolution with true online gaming and DLC being introduced to consoles.

As the final console from Sega, I find myself drawn back to it more than most of my old consoles, and I find mysely reminicsing more about the games and experiences I had with it. I hope i'm not the only memeber of this forum with fond memories of the Sega Dreamcast.

I bought mine off Barn, who never truly appreciated the machine. I'm glad I took that risk of buying a machine he didn't like because it introduced me to numerous games that gave me countless hours of fun.

  • Shenmue I and II
  • Skies of Arcadia
  • Chu Chu rocket
  • Phantasy Star Online
  • Jet Grind Radio
  • Metropolis Street Racer
  • Soul Calibur
  • Resident Evil: Code Veronica
  • Virtua Tennis
  • Tee Off

There are probably more I am forgetting, but there is enought to me to prove that this is a great little console. I still find myself plugging it into the TV and reliving some of it's delights, and I have even compiled a list of 25+ games I would like to buy for it sometime soon, which to me is a testament to the console.

Anyone else gonna join me in connecting it to their TV's over the next few days and basking in it's greatness?

Awesome, is it a complete coincidence that I got out the Dreamcast last night and played MSR with my brother just like old times?

R.I.P The best console ever.

You start, quite possibly, the faggiest threat in the history of PESInsight/Gaming, and then have the nerve to insult me in the process?

Coming from the guy who wrote a serious obit for Angus McBride; go fuck yourself homo.

Kev; MSR is great. Migh tput it on myself today.

gaysest bit of Shenmue.

I remember stealing milk and dried fish from Ine-San's fridge for that little girls cat.

Johnno how many attemts did it take you to get into warehouse no. 8?

Fukken loads on my first play through; I think once you get past a certain amount of failing miserably, the game realised how shite you were and just let you in without having to pass that bit, but it took a massive chunk of your game days up.

Second time through did it first time.

I loved arm wrestling and the underground fighting in Shenmue 2, but nothing beats this baby; Forklift Racing!!

Quite right! Twas awesome. Though Warehouse no 8 didn't eventually let you in because if you played past a certain date, you got the alternate ending, and the only way to do this quickly was to fail to get into the warehouse every night for about a year... Lan Di comes back to your house, finds the other mirror and kills you!

At least Angus had talent and died in agony. I wouldn't mind but N64 shat all over Sega's shitcunt of a machine. And you know it.

This game was so good. More or less, Dreamcast's answer to Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. but I found it just as good, if not better.

Really enjoyed Marvel vs Capcom but cannot believe it was number 1 ahead of Shenmue.

I never owned a Dreamcast but I knew people who did and have played on one a few times before. The only game I remember enjoying was Crazy Taxi, partly because it was a fun game and also because it had a few Offspring songs on the soundtrack. I remember playing Ecco the Dolphin on a Dreamcast inside a cinema once, think it was one of the West End ones. It was terrible.
