I started this thread to get some opinions on the removal of the feature which enables 2 player leagues and cups in PES. To avoid any vagueness as to what I am referring I am talking about the ability to play a league or cup with my mate, in which I control his opponents and vice versa, i.e. knocking over the joypad before the kick off. This option has been disabled since PES came to PS3 (NextGen Consoles) and has been the single focus of frustration to myself and Im sure many others (Wolfman for one). Although I am aware of the "logic" in the removal of this feature, that being the possibility of utilising the feature in order to cheat my way to trophies, although this "logic" has a great deal of scope for criticism.
Firstly I am very sure that anyone who plays these games does so primarily for enjoyment, and there is no enjoyment in cheating ones way to a trophy. A counter argument to this will of course be that there are any number of "Trophy Wh***s" out there willing to exploit this and cheat their way to trophies anyway, however the "logic" is still not evident as surely the possibility of someone molesting the game in this way is both unrewarding (a potent deterrent) and causes no known harm to the game, the console, the industry, that is there is no capitalisation on cheating in this way that serves as justification for disabling a feature which is used and would be used in the main for enjoyment ( the reason we buy PES ) To me there is simply no logic to be found anywhere for the removal of the feature.
I feel this issue goes beyond mere personal preference and I am aware that Konami cannot please everyone, however this issue cuts a little deeper than those who campaign for the ability to edit the logos on the water bottles or to make the shorts longer, that is because when considering the way the game is likely to evolve, more memory etc inevitably will bring with it a higher level of customisation ability with a more advanced edit mode over time I am quite sure, however for the issue of 2 player leagues/cups it seems that the same direction of evolution (i.e. focus on trophies and online play) will render this feature a thing of the past, we will no longer be able to play the game the way we have done since the early PS2 days.
My plea to Konami on this is that we should have the option to choose, not only is it quite absurd to be somehow limited by advanced capability of the console/game it is also simply void of any real logic.
I am aware that for some players the trophies and online capabilities are what makes the game great, but Im sure many of Konami's core fans like myself who take much enjoyment in playing against a mate in cups/leagues with the 2 player feature, the reason being that it is so much more meaningful than simple playing friendlies all night, to be able to knock my mate out at the knockout round of the Champions League with a dodgy last minute away goal would be a feature that would make PES so much more enjoyable, and well community mode is no replacement for the simple inclusion of the 2 player feature.
In my opinion Konami should (If they still adhere to their own backward logic) at least provide an option, even if it means completely disabling trophies all together for those who wish to play the game in this way. The logic here is much easier to grasp in that those who play for trophies do so for a sense of pride and challenge, and for the most part would not cheat even if they could, and for those like myself who don't care about trophies then we take enjoyment in having more meaningful matches against other humans, gloating rights are all we want
At least give us the option Konami!!!
Any thoughts or opinions welcomed, Steev.
