4,3,2,1... Park the Bus?!

In Season2, Div2 - ya I am a bit rubbish  - and it seems more and more teams are playing that loverly formation. Even quality sides like Porto are doing it. When I went up 1-nil against Rangers, they responded by subbing an AMF and switching to a 4-3-2-1... there's ambition for ya.

When I get promoted to the Premier League, will more teams actually play football or is this 9 outfield players behind the ball something to get use to?

Thanks :)

I'm guessing you mean the formation with the 3 deep defensive midfielders? If so, that is quite common to use by the AI. The AI is so bad tactically. In my BAL, my manager plays a 4-1-4-1, with one centre mid, 2 attacking mids and 2 advanced side mids. If we're losing, he takes off the centre mid and puts another forward on!! So no cover at all down the middle.
If the 4-3-2-1 is "parking the bus", then the 4-0-4-2 should be "launching the rocket" or something. :D

Ya that's it. With the back 4 it's like 7 players sitting at the top of their 18 yd box. Ah right, so its the norm, fair enough.

It has led me to change formation which has helped me quite a bit, but it's nice to have some variety so you don't end up playing the same way to beat those sides all the time.

FC Basel play a bonkers formation that looks like a Jenga stack about to collapse, when viewing the game plan screen. Wasn't particularly successful for them, but at least its different.

4-0-4-2! That's alotta running for someone in midfield! :)

At the start of my current ML season, my team is a bit good now. Every team (no matter if they're home or away) in the Prem Lge, is starting with a 4-2-3-1 formation, then switching to that stupid 4-3-2-1 in the second half, no matter what the score is.
"What if they don't have 2 defensive midfielders?", I hear you say. Well..... Chelsea just decided to play Lavezzi there.
Now I'm no expert on Ezequiel Iván Lavezzi, aka "El Pocho", who is roughly 1.73m in height, and was born in Villa Gobernador Gálvez, Argentina on 3rd May 1985.... but I'm pretty sure he's not a defensive midfielder. :hmm:

Currently doing ligue 1 and I get this formation a lot, especially when I am on a good run of the results. Makes master league feel like a bit of a chore at times, however if your patient and build up from back you can create space. This defensive formation coupled with constant AI gang rape pressure can be infuriating.

Just got promoted to the Premiership, so I hope the teams have the decency to just kick the crap out of me - have a good D2 side and one full of promise, but cannot touch their 80+ starting 11s - and not go all Man City and play off the counter.

Surely someone nicknamed 'el poacho' shouldn't be allowed in his own 1/2 of the pitch ;-)
I guess its slightly 'comforting' to know its a PES thing and not a league thing, wouldnt want to start over after 2 seasons just to escape boring boring football formations.

I have to admit, I'm one of those shameless Bus parking players. I tried to play attractive football but too often got hit on the counter attack. I started using 3-6-1 and boy does it frustrate the decent players - I came back from 2-0 down in a game I deserved nothing from, he must have had comedy steam coming out of his ears when I equalised with seconds to spare

Haha, but see that's a person's choice which is grand - allbeit not particularly ambitious ;-) - it's when the AI teams do it as a matter of course, regardless of their quality and scoreline which is flipping annoying.

On ML offline I would always go for the and attack. I find playing MLO makes you a better player against the AI anyhow, there is a noticable difference in styles as I always expect the AI to anticipate my passes like a human player does.

The formations you sometimes see online are often a lot worse, anyway.

Case in point:

I think you would get some serious abuse from me :realmad:

Though it depends on what sort of 3-6-1 you were using. Did you use wing backs?

I once played a guy on Fifa, who was (at the time) ranked no.2 in the US. I was beating him 3-0 at half time. The he switched to playing 5 at the back and 4 up front and pulled it back to 3-3. It's fucking cheating, I don't care what others say... it is! Nobody would ever do that in real life, so it shouldn't be allowed in PES or Fifa!

I did chuckle when I used to get abusive messages for my defending.

The two wide men were pushed up quite high with the SS dropped deep. It works a treat against good teams because I adjust the formation depending on how the other team plays. I'll sometimes move the SS wide left and change the LMF to an AMF and move him inside.

Do the RMF/LMF collapse down to RB/LB level when not in position to give you the crowd pleasing 6 across the middle? At least going forward it looks to be a much more positive CF/2 wingers setup :)

Actually no, I keep the wide men as narrow as possible and full backs as wide as possible. If I'm getting done for pace down the flanks by someone constantly playing through balls using a 4-3-3 formation I'll bring them back and double up on their wingers. That annoys them no end :D
