Ove's Pes4 vs Fifa review
My review of Fifa vs PES:
The menu's and total layout are totally different but looking good, I personally like the one from Fifa better. It is in the small things like team badges, colours etc. Disadvantage from Fifa is that it is sloooooooow. The same for the saving proces
Editing is in both games, but for all I have seen till now it's much better in PES, create player was not unlocked in Fifa. But you can transfer players to another team. Big advantage Pes is patchable.
Graphics on the pitch during gameplay: I like both but I think Fifa is better. But names/backnumbers are shite in Fifa and not Fifa worthy. Player faces are better in Pes, with Fifa they look like plastic. The shiny faces in Fifa from last version(2004) are reduced and the pitch is to bright with shiny weather.
You see no rain drops, but Fifa has now water on the field, but in Pes it looks much better. I like the keeper movements(I don't say there better). They respond more natural then in Pes(with the looking to the ball), especially diving looks great in Fifa. It looks to me that the frame rate is higher in Pes, for example Pes have 22 fr/sec and Fifa 18 fr/sec.
Pes have more cut scene's(offside, substitute's etc.) and ref's on the pitch. And the replays after a game are better in Pes. With Fifa it happens that you see the same action over and over and over.... and not the other actions and goals.
Gameplay: mmmm, this is hard there is so much difference between this games, Pes is much faster then Fifa(it looks like you're in thick air), but maybe I have to much played Pes and I'm used to this speed. The new first touch is great and gives you lots of movement but the overall movement and freedom is better in Pes. The set pieces in Fifa is a nice feature. But I hate it when I'm forced to kick directly on goal with a freekick, I want to do what I want. So that's a minor point for Fifa and a big advantage for Pes. Shooting is more realistic in Pes, in Fifa there is to much ball speed when you shoot.
And with Pes you notice more the difference between Henry and Kuyt.
And there are much more small things that are different.
The sound in Fifa is better, you can hear the chearing from the home team. I used as language Dutch and the comment is also Dutch!! Not the greatest commentary(from Evert ten Napel and Youri Mulder) but it is nice. During the game I could hear shouting(I think from the coach), the person shouts: use the wings, bad ball, pressure etc but then in Dutch. The same you hear during a trainings match.
Options in the game: I never have played ML(gonna try it this year) with Pes but I understand that this one of the main things people buying Pes. The management in Fifa is not that big but for the average player fun and not to diffulcult and has a length of 15 year. With Pes you can make your own tournement/league and that's it. With Fifa you can choose for a custom league/tournement or a league/cup from one of the registred competitions.
And that is the big plus from Fifa the total amount of competitions, teams and players.
In both games you can earn points, with Pes you can buy things. I'm not sure with Fifa.
If there's is a cup and European in Fifa during a competition I don't know maybe you must qualify, would be a nice feature.
Conclusion: Fifa 2005 is a giant leap forward from Fifa 2004(one of the worse games in the Fifa series). I think it deserves a closer look and I'm gonna do that. If you have never played a Pes/We game I think this is a great footy game. I'm really surprised what Ea did, but it stays a more arcade game.
But I find Pes a f*****g great game and I love it. And it's is more to real life.
So if you want a total footy game with almost correct line-ups and registred compititions, with great graphics etc then I should choose Fifa.
If you want more realisme in the gameplay and don't mind the editing or patching then choose Pes.
And for the rich and lucky bastard among us

like me buy them both.
