Can't do any of the fancy tricks

I've watched the online videos and read the manual and I just can't pull off any of the fancy tricks (like the drag back flicks etc.).

I can do the roulette but thats about it.

e.g. back, forward/diag , can't even pull that one off in training w/ Barca!

I don't have any issues playing the damned game (only normal, way too easy IMHO going to switch it up soon) and I know how to use R2 to my advantage but it would be nice to be able to pull of some of the fancy tricks in the videos.

Can anyone provide some hints?!?! is there something really obvious I am missing?

e.g. I try to do the drag back flick - back then forward/diag, and 9 times out of 10 my player just turns around. I tried varying the speed of the joystick (i.e. tried doing it quickly like a fighting game combo, tried doing it slow) but still no dice.

If you're playing on PS3, that's mainly cuz the PS3 controller has the shittiest stick ever. Almost impossible to perform most tricks. Also partly Konami's fault for still favouring the dpad cuz tricks are still meant for dpad this year.

I use the pads to do tricks all the time on PS3. All works fine.
