Circle Button Questions

On my PES3 (PS2 Version), I notice that when we hit the circle button especially on a freekick from your own half or a corner in the opposing half, there is some kind of inconistency. Do you notice that in some rare ocassion the shot will move on ground level albeit at a high speed. Most of time though, the ball will float.
I just figure this out. During free kicks and corners, I seldom press the circle button more than once hence it is not possible for the ball to move at ground level. Is there an explanation for this?

If you hold 'Down' while hitting a free kick or corner and press 'O' then the cross will be along the ground. Very useful for more accurate/longer passing from free kicks.

Using down+ full power circle was sometimes a good way to score from free kicks near the opposition's goal in PES2. Haven't really tried it in PES3 though.
