What does it actually do when you change the cursor speed

It speeds up or slows down the rate in which the computer switches players closer to the ball for you so you always have control of the player nearest the ball.

I always have mine on manual because I like to be in control and I don't always want to be the player nearest to the ball, it's good for defending and running up behind for that nasty sliding tackle.

I think you can also use it to select one player and only be that player the entire match as the cursor won't switch players if you put it on the right setting.

That's FIX mode, when you press L1 to the end of the line.

I leave it on 3, which I think is the default setting. When its on manual when you are defending corners I find it impossible to switch to the right player in time to head the ball away.
