Oh dear oh dear oh dear
I cant believe the gulf in class between these two demos. I mean for the past 6 months weve been lead to believe that these games were neck and neck.
I am a pes fanatic and despised FIFAs grapplehold on official licenses blending them with poor gameplay.
But how the tide has turned. I couldnt ignore the rave reviews of fifa 09 any longer so I rented it and played a few games (lagg-less) online. It felt like I was cheating on my wife, I actually felt guilty!!!!
I was impressed but not completely won over. I still believed in PES and felt that if they could make improvements in key areas theyd reign supreme once more.
I downloaded the fifa 10 demo. It came out first. Why do konami allow fifa to constantly throw the first punch???? It has led to KOs of late.
I was blown away. The 360 movment, the complete control of the pass, through ball, crossing is top drawer. The camera angle is stunning. The animations are brilliant. The shooting although a little recorded at times is varied and complemented beautifully by the finesse shot.
Then news of the pro evo 2010 demo broke. I was nervous. Feelings of trepitation. Sadly, there were justified. The game looks good. The kits, faces, nets etc are very good. The pitch looks ps2. The game was just so boring for me. It just hasnt changed. The gameplay has gone stale. Its attempts to adopt FIFAs slow simulation gameplay failed , desparately so. The shooting when the game actually responses is exceptional, but no saving grace. A poor online could be the final nail. Fifa is so close to perfection now. They are not far away from a 10/10 score.
PES needs a new lease of life. A change of direction. I believe they reached their peak with pes6. It was the pinnacle of PES. They however have failed to make a next gen successor.
