Difficulty levels are a joke

I have the NTSC version of WE9 (WE9 Int) and I think the difficulty levels in this game are pretty arbitrary and not indicitive of the number of "stars" to which you set it.

I've been playing the Konami franchise since it was brand new, so I'm not a total chump at this game or anything. I don't play all the time but I can do well enough to win about twice as many games as I lose w/ the difficulty set to 4 stars.

I've been using DW Evans option file w/ the U-21 teams & I just wanted to get some WEN points to unlock features such as these teams for Master League. So, I lowered the game difficulty. First, down from 4 stars to 3 stars, then to 2 stars and now to ONE star and I am still doing no better.

Sure, the gameplay has changed. It's total garbage now with players just running straight and possessing the ball for the CPU controlled squad. No one makes any through runs now and no one can pressure well on either side. Players kick it over the touch lines more frequently in really stupid scenarios with no pending-pressure. It's as if they have more momentum, or are just over-reacting to what used to be very intuitive controls on 4 star difficulty.

It's not any easier though. Just really really boring. My record is still basically the same (I lose maybe 1 out of 3 matches if the opposition is talented) and no more goals are being scored. I was hoping to just pour in goals and get these WEN points in one sitdown.

Does anyone have any tips to quickly dispatch teams on 1 star difficulty and win some cups really fast on 5min games? Or is there another way to get points quickly so I can start my Master League w/ everything unlocked?

I also play We9 Int, and I can't lose with ManU on 5*. 1 or 2 losses a season (league mode 38 matches). Was undefeated 1/2 thru my other one until I unlocked 6* and started playin that. Now I finally lose some hehe. Lost 3/32.

u shouldn't play master league cuz of the fatigue issue, and less games, clubs, and a crap champions league. I guess its fun to sign and train players but I can't bother. I play league mode with accumulative fatigue turned off. Much more realistic as u can play someone like Lampard in every match.

u should get used to playin with manual cursor cuz auto cursor is garbage. Manual will let the com control players in certain situations which is useful, and u'll start defending and countering better. Play on wide camera so u can make better plays. Go do the training for basic controls and wutever else they can teach u. Sounds nooby but I did it too when I 1st bought the game. Also learn how to work your formation tactics and strategies. There's a tutorial in formation settings.

i have always played manual cursor and wide camera. plus i win on 4 stars enough to think im not completely terrible at WE9. but ive since been able to roll through lowest difficulty level.

4 star and higher just plays more intuitively for a developed attack. i cant tell you how many times i would knock it around the corners for a cross on one star and my wingers would just trample it over the touchline w/ no regard for super cancel. the shooting was ridiculous too. on 1 you can just hold it to full power and its on net regardless.. releasing it correctly results in garbage compared to 4 or 5

obviously no one here agreed w/ my opinion on the stars, but if anyone has this problem in the future, i have found on the low difficulties its best to just win the 50-50 balls forward (which play more like 90-10 balls) and turbo straight down the pitch. its pathetic and boring but it gets the WEN points to allow a proper ML w/ the u-21s and stadiums and the rest

I think most players who can win on 4 stars would find it quite hard NOT to win 1 star.

So you're sayin on 1* your shot has unerring accuracy but other aspects like technique has become horrible. Haven't tried anything under 5* so I'll have to go see for myself.
