This is in response to some cat who made a post a while back.
Who ever it was (can't remember now, my memory is sh*t) had purchased pes5 and then posted a thread on here stating that he was going to return the game and demand a refund as he was disapointed with the gameplay.
I purchased the game at 9.01 on the day of release. Having first played the game I too was a little bemused with the speed of the gameplay, loose control of the ball, and the frequency of foul-play.
However, after playing about two or three matches it struck me! Has anyone in PES world watched a full 90 minute La Liga match? If so you can appreciate exactly where Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka is coming from.
Unfortunately, and this subject has been much discussed in the media, football is no longer a game that is played at 1,000,000 mph and where you are likely to witness the ball rustling the back of the net on twelve seperate occasions in one match. When was the last time the beautiful game was played like that? Before the 1930's perhaps?
Maybe that is what it is that makes the game so 'beautiful'. The fact that you now have to use flare, imagination, intelligence, skill, strategy, tactics, etc... A game can be decided by one touch of the ball, a second of pure magic. Maybe that's why playmakers like Robinho, Ronaldinho, and Zidane are worshipped as if they were Gods and Defenders like Stam, Terry, and Thuram are feared by every attacking player throughout the world.
After playing PES5 for a couple of days now I've finally got to grips with the new playing engine and the game is pure joy, especially when executing Ronaldinho's box of tricks or scoring a Beckham free-kick. I would have paid £100 if the game was sold at that price (hope the money people at Konami don't see that). My only criticism of the game-play is the full-backs... they seeem to drift into the centre of the pitch when in posession, can be quite annoying - maybe I should get the guide!!!
Final word on Pro Evo is that PES5 perfectly reflects the way that the game is played today and it's the most authentic football game out there for this generation. Just be patient and you will notice the work and skill put into this great game in the end.
Last word on FIFA? I purchased FIFA 2006 a couple of weeks before PES5 was released, like I do every year. I have to say that the guys at EA have made some major improvements to the game-play. The sound is excellent, the graphics of the supporter's and the stadiums is equally as good as the sound. However, it's the final third of play that really let's the game down... playing that final through ball or dribbling the ball round the keeper. Also the ball physic's are not quite there yet, the ball takes an unrealistic swerve when taking a shot from long range. EA still has a long way to go before they can get anywhere near Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka and the boy's but they are on the right track.
Conclusion - If you like playing arcade style football games from the 90's get FIFA. If you want to experience the true form of the way that the most popular sport is played today get PES5.
