....I have managed to patch my first fuly working, non-skipping version of PES3.
Many thanks to those who helped me in being able to do it, your replies to forum threads, problems etc have been invaluable. Especially Zyg and Jonboyo who took the time to personally reply to questions they've heard many, many times.
I have a few tips (in no order)
1. READ the forums, sounds obvious, but it helps a massive deal, take your time (I know I did as a newbie to the whole thing).
2. Use verbatim cdr's or a quality make (i.e. ones you can't see a lot of sunlight through (if any)).
3. Burn at the lowest speed possible (max 4x if possible)
4. Makesure you READ any instructions fully so as to not make mistakes. Beginners.txt on the forum is great for the anyripkit patches.
5. If you have a laptop make sure when it's burning that it's perfectly still, do not touch it and keep it FLAT until complete.
6. If you haven't got a confusion rip of the game, use the ANYRIPKIT version (JB's 1.12.03 + 8.1 update is particularly good imo). Patch the .asf file AFTER you have extracted it using the right tools.
7. If you have a confusion rip, use the 5.1.04 + 8.1.04 update. For confusion, patch the bin file direct)
8. Take time to find out what each of the tools do, it will help you patch easier in the long run if you actually know what processes are involved.
9. Take each step slowly and carefully, double check your actions.
10. If you have a verion 9 ps2 (....5000x) model without the date code '3d' on the serial sticker I would advise not to get this chipped if still in warranty. These are particularly vulnerable to overburn and a v10 is recommended (with the 3d code on the back). I got mine done, but it's at high risk of not working soon. When I can afford it and if mine ever goes, I will get a pre-modded ps2 frm a reputable firm.
11. Get the latest messiah or DMS chip if you can, they are regarded as the best
11. make sure your cdr is spotless and maybe even use a cd cleaner before burning (just in case - I did).
12. I used nero to burn my disk but any decent burning tool is good (cdrwin)
13. Read and search these forums
14. Enjoy the game.
Thanks again all for making the best game even better.
