Hello everyone, I would like to present Gloom to whoever doesn't know of its existence.
I'll try to make a game description below:

Read me: When created, Gloom used Quake II engine, due to its simplicity; as players started to play it, they have been developing new engines for gloom one of those was EGL, which is just like the Quake III graphic engine, that looks much smoother. If you have Quake II just download
Gloom 1.3 Full Install
and extract to your Quake 2 folder.
Check out the EGL download page to get the Q2 modified client for smoother graphism and extract it to the Quake 2 folder.
I believe you can play with this 2 files, if not, then you will need Quake II multiplayer demo
Playing Gloom: To play Gloom on-line, you will need to have a server browser; Like Gloom Server Browser
Set it up and you're ready to go.
Story: Basically it's the same idea as the movie Aliens vs Predator where aliens try to infest several places to world domination destroying all types of human lifeforms; the Humans must counter-attack making sure they kill all the spiders destroying their eggs aswell, so no further breeding is allowed.
To make it in a weird realistic way, gloom is played in dark maps, which provides great gameplay once aliens have infrared vision and humans have a flashlight to guide them in the dark.
Both teams have 5 classes with different abilities:

Aliens:
Breeder: It's the mother of all aliens, it lays eggs which are needed for the aliens to spawn and takes care of the base's defence placing obstacles, spikers and gassers; it has also the most important job because it's responsable for restoring aliens life and their special attacks, by placing healers. It's not an offensive class; it's skin is non protected against projectiles and it has a very low attack power.
Hatchling: The basic attack unit, starts off with 20 hp, and can be killed with one shot in the torso. It's a small spider which power does not come from it's strenght, but from it's agility and stealtheness. It's equipped with a hook which is able to reach dark corners and wait for it's prey to walk by and then attack; it's dark colour makes it almost invisible if known how to play.
Drone: A medium-sized bug that has a hard skin, making it worse for humans light classes to kill. It has very strong legs, making him jump very high, also reaching places that others can't. It's special ability are the spiting saliva. It's filled with bacterias that freeze humans making it easier to slash.
Wraith: Also a medium-sized bug, similar to the drone, but a mutated one. It developed a pair of wings, which makes him harder to hit while he surfs the skies at high speed, spiting acid balls.
Kamikaze: Identical to his brother Hatchling, the kamikaze has red stripes in his legs, which can panic the humans defending the base; this unit is very fast and has the power to blow up all enemy structures in it's radius due to the butane he carries on his torso.
Stinger: One of the most used classes in Aliens; it's a complete set of fear. It's a large size alien with a scorpion tail, inflicting high damage when used; it's tail can also spit 2 toxic balls destroying enemy structures easily and poisoning humans. The 3rd weapon he has is the fire breath, his stomach developed gas which bursts into flames when spitted, it takes medium damage but he must take a 2 second rest to fill the stomach with gas before using it again.His hard shell is light-protected, so Exterminators PLG does not affect them.
Guardian: As the name says, this is a defensive class. The guardian has 2 large claws that inflict high damage to his opponents. He is equipped with 2 spike balls, that can be used to set up usually in automatic doors; once the door is opened, the spike ball releases its spikes in all directions hitting all targets with high damage. It has the ability to be invisible while standing still, which is a great skill to trap the enemies. It's 3rd weapon is the infestation; he can decompose human dead bodies making them toxic for humans that come near by.
Stalker: The last and ultimate attacking/defending unit; it's skin is hard which absorbs 70% of regular projectiles, it's a very large sized bug but it's legs are so strong it can move at high speed, he can mown his opponents down with some fast hits, it has 3 spike balls and also 20 spikes to throw in a single direction; one hit of these can kill instantly a light human class.

Humans:
Engineer: It's the same as a breeder, but as a mechanical robot. It's in charge of base defences, building structures like turrets, mines, detectors, to automatically kill the spiders. While the Aliens base has auto-repair function, the engineer must make sure all it's defences are at full health repairing it when not. He also is responsable for Human weaponry and armor restoring with his depot.
Grunt: The basic attack unit, it's equipped with a 30 round machinegun, a 13 bullet pistol and a healthpack. It has light armor and it's most vulnerable to poison attacks, he can easily die if walking alone in dark places.
Shock Trooper: This unit is similar to the Grunt, but wears a special suit which covers him against poison; he's equipped with a 5 shell Shotgun and also with the pistol and 1 healthpack. His Shotgun can use a 5 round special Explosive charge which detonates when hits something; it can kill Alien eggs with 1 shot.
He also comes equipped with 2 smoke grenades, which can blind nearby aliens, for some seconds, making it easier for you to run when injured, or kill when at full health.
Biotech: A female that comes equipped with a 12 shell Scattergun, making medium-damage to aliens, also having the pistol and healthpack. She is a very usable character in discovering new map areas to forward the base; equipped with Infrared Vision, she can spot Aliens from far; also has 4 flares to light up dark places making aliens 100% visible except from the Guardian, which only she can see it's red glow when invisible. She has 1 stunning grenade that can get her out of hard situations and has the ability to provide health and healthpacks to all units.
Heavy Trooper: This trooper comes equipped with a Rocket Launcher, the pistol and 2 healthpacks. It's rocket launcher is ideal for destroying enemy structures, but he's the worst class in close combat, so use it only when you attack as a team. It can easily destroy eggs and one accurate shot of his Rocket Launcher can kill a Stalker, but he must aim only when crouched, otherwise it's most likely that he blows himself and everyone around him, if fireing it while standing/moving.
Commando: This is a well trained soldier, he does not make any noise while jumping, running, and is equipped with a 50 round silenced machinegun, making him very usefull for hit and run attacks.
He has a powerfull Magnum, which fire-rate is low but very powerfull; he's also equipped with 2 frag grenades which destroy enemy structures and eggs and 2 healthpacks. He as also a c4 which can blast every alien structure when placed.
He can cold his blood so his enemies' Infrared Vision becomes useless although this only works when he crouches.
Exterminator: It's a robot-human unit, he has a very light titanium suit, protecting him from poison, providing him a great armor. He has a pulse laser gun (or PLG) which can fire up to 60 shots not having to change magazine. He has 4 fragmentation grenades, 2 healthpacks and his suit can make him fly for short distances, consuming the cells used for the PLG which are then recharged. He has a special attack named Pulse: it fires all his cells in a single concentrated shot, inflicting high damage to all creatures except the Stinger, which takes light damage but is projected about 3 meters back. Once he uses the Pulse, its cells will overheat, resulting in a useless PLG for 20 seconds, the time it takes to cool it down; it also happens while fireing the PLG for long periods of time.
Mechanize Unit: This unit is known as Mech, and it's the most feared class by Aliens. This is a large-size unit, very slow but it's similar to a tank. It's heavily protected and has 2 large 20mm cannons that shoot flaming projectiles; He can eletrocutate smaller Alien classes or just walk over them. He can't jump because of it's weight and he should have an Engineer to repair him and restore his ammunition.

I did this because I've been playing Gloom for a while now and I love the game, specially with the new EGL engine that makes everything look cool.
The other reason, was because not enough people play the game, and there is a UK server that is always empty, so I play in a dutch one, which ping is not as great as the UK one.
Took some time to do this all pretty and neat for you guys to check it out, so please just try it out.
