Help: League or ML co-op wont save

OK I may be being really stupid but my mates & I have tried all sorts to figure this out.
Bought Xbox PES4 - love it/convert - but:

We can start a League playing co-op on one box (usually 2 players) and continue as normal and save.

However on reloading the game the 2 player option is gone - on the player select screen we can start with the other controller - but instead of a coloured man we can only get the grey twins (cPU control option) or the megaphone man.

Surely there is some way of playing through a league and saving it with 2 player co-op?

Any help very appreciated.

Can anyone pleeeeeaase answer this so i too can be happy i converted to the Xbox version, its driving me nuts...a little help or advice would be GREAT,
