How to jump effectively?

I have wasted many chances of scoring because my players just could not jump during the crucial moment. Have played a century of matches, I can anticipate a sliding tackle with good accuracy but that it all I could do. Many times, I have to move my player away to avoid the sliding tackle rather than jump which would have save me precious seconds. I have read the tutorial which say that we need to press R2 to jump. I have tried that but to no avail. Am I missing something?

How do you jump to avoid a tackle. Despite playing loads of matches somehow I have not been able to perform this.

on PES2 you pressed R3 (the right analogue stick) to make a player jump. Now on PES3 i think they jump automatically (how often and well probably depending on skill levels and stuff) when you are running with R2.

does it really say pess r2 to jump sliding tackles in the manual

I am replying to this message simply because I want to help you with your gaming and I hope that you have no problem with that. I have found that pressing the square button early even as soon as the ball is crossed results in your player waiting for the ball to come closer. I do not think jumping is about timing in PES3 put rather about the players jump stat and his height.
