Konami of Europe has today announced that it will release Pro Evolution Soccer 3 in Europe in November. The game, which is currently in development at the Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo studio, is the sequel to Pro Evolution Soccer 2--which was released in North America as Winning Eleven 6 International back in March.

According to today's press release, Pro Evolution Soccer 3 will improve upon its predecessor in a number of ways, not the least of which will be options to select referees, switch player fatigue on or off, and to play matches as a single player on the field rather than switching from player to player as the position of the ball dictates. New features will also include a four-division version of the popular Master League mode, and a brand new "Shop" where point accumulated in the game's training and exhibition modes can be spent on new stadiums, crowd effects, teams, players, strategies, and hair styles.

All of the players in Pro Evolution Soccer 3 will more closely resemble their real-life counterparts than ever before thanks to a new graphics engine, and will even move more realistically since KCE TYO is renewing over 80 percent of the in-game animations. Players will also have facial expressions that change depending on how the match is progressing, and will have their limbs strapped or heads bandaged as any injuries they sustain dictate.

Even the crowds in the game are being improved, and in addition to the size of the crowd reflecting the popularity of the teams on the field at that time, spectators will dress differently according to the weather conditions in which the match is being played. Other improvements mentioned in today's press release include referees being able to play the advantage in foul situations, better player AI, and more realistic ball physics.

Expect the first screenshots of Pro Evolution Soccer 3 tomorrow, and a hands-on report on the game from the PlayStation Experience event in London next month.

Hopefully there will be new screens by mid day tomorrow (GMT). Most of the details seem to be FIFA style improvements, but it'll be nice to see your team enter the pitch without square heads. I like the sound of the crowd size changing depending on your performances, and apparently they'll be wearing jackets rather than t-shirts when it rains. This is also the first I've heard about being able to control just one player throughout the game (Libero Grande anyone). Hopefully they'll improve the club teams (names, kits).

If the image above has displayed then I'll be able to post them, by this time tomorrow though every games site in the world should have screens, seems as it's official they won't be dodgy magazine scannings either.

"The greatest football series on the planet is set to get even better. Unmissable details of sublime PS2 justice inside!

13:36 The revelation of the latest addition to the seminal Pro Evolution Soccer series has been met with nothing less than a Europe-wide Mexican wave today, Konami revealing first details of the title. Woo hoo!
Already firmly lodged in the minds of true football fans as unmatched in the genre, the series has set the standards which others have repeatedly failed to reach. And with PES3 the bar is set to be raised yet again to dizzying heights in a game that's already making us weak at the knees and delirious with joy?

Why should you be excited? Isn't it just another update. Oh no. According to one source, not associated with Konami, who has played Winning Eleven 7 (the Japanese version that will be refined to become PES3) the game is: "100 percent better than the last in every respect." No, we don't see how that is possible either, but one thing seems clear: expect greatness.

Anyway, you want the details; raw, dirty facts you can sully yourselves with until you feel ashamed to be alive. For starters, every part of the game has been reworked, from visuals to game modes and moves.

According to Konami, developer KCET has reworked 80 percent of animations and created a brand new graphics engine to create the most realistic action you've ever seen in the series, with players not only resembling but moving like their real life counterparts. And facial expressions will indicate how players are feeling during a match, with KCET further expanding the range of injury animations on offer.

In terms of actual gameplay, numerous improvements have been included thanks to overhauled player AI and ball physics, such as greater control over long-range drives, the ability to flick the ball over a defender with a player's heel and new, agile turns to evade opponents.

For the league and tournament modes, a new 'Shop' function has been implemented, allowing players to buy and trade everything from stadiums and crowd effects to strategies and hairstyles. Although it's believed you'll have to amass a mighty fortune before the Chris Waddle mullet circa '88 becomes available.

The only real disappointment is the lack of online play, which potentially gives the next iteration of EA's FIFA series a key advantage in the marketplace.

That aside, it looks like KCET is set to smash through the competition and set new standards yet again. Due for release in Europe this November, PS2 owners should thank their lucky stars. Stay tuned for first shots within the next 24 hours..."

"Stunning new look and extensive revamp for Konami of Europe’s seminal PlayStation 2 football simulation

In news that will delight football aficionados and fans of skill and undiluted gameplay, Konami of Europe has announced that Pro Evolution Soccer 3, the latest in Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo’s (KCE TYO) legendary football series will be released for PlayStation 2 in November.

With the Pro Evolution Soccer series rightly regarded as the pinnacle of console football titles, the Tokyo-based team has risen to the challenge of out-performing its predecessors and Pro Evolution Soccer 3 is certain to set new standards for the football genre. As befits a series widely regarded as the definitive football experience for console, Pro Evolution Soccer 3 represents a mammoth step forward for the series, with every aspect of the game massively reworked, with new player models, on and off the ball moves and key additions to the Master League incorporated into the new game.

From the outset, Pro Evolution Soccer 3’s improvements are obvious. The game’s menu screens have been simplified to cater for the wealth of new modes on offer. In addition to the series’ renowned cup tournaments, friendly matches and a new, four-division Master League, KCE TYO has also added a ‘Shop’ element to the game. This adds additional depth to the series, as players accumulate points via the training and exhibition modes. These in turn can be traded for new stadiums, crowd effects, teams, players, strategies and hair styles, rewarding the player for prolonged play.

Pro Evolution Soccer 3 has also undergone a radical aesthetic overhaul, with KCE TYO renewing over 80% of the in-game animations, and a new graphics engine allowing the greatest level of detail seen in the series. Combined, Pro Evolution Soccer 3 benefits from players that not only look identical to their real-life counterparts, but move like them, too. Similarly, the players have improved AI and ball physics that allows them to pull off moves specific to particular situations. As such, long-range drives are now more controllable than before, while players can flick the ball over a defender with their heel and perform deft turns to bypass oncoming defenders.

This level of detail is further expanded with a wealth of smaller ideas. Players now have facial expressions which change depending on how the game is going, while injuries are more visible with the addition of head bandages and strapped limbs. In addition, the crowd now plays a larger part in the proceedings; with the popularity of teams reflected in how full the stadium is, while they will also be dressed differently according to the weather the match is being played in. The fans also benefit from a number of new stadia, as KCE TYO continues to add to the big game realism Pro Evolution Soccer 3 enjoys.

With a multi-player mode accommodating up to eight players, referees playing the advantage in foul situations, the option to control one player as opposed to switching between them, and new modes to select referees and switch fatigue on and off, Pro Evolution Soccer 3 is certain to set new standards for a console football game. Every element of the game has been tweaked, reworked and enhanced resulting in a game where every flick and trick of the real thing can be intuitively performed."

Here's a few more although it's been suggested these are WE7 and not PES3. We'll just have to wait and see for ourselves.
They do look nice though!

Good to see England having a decent attack too!

Thanks for all the info guys, was finding it hard not to salivate on the old keyboard there!

Looks like they haven't done all the player likenesses yet then, some of those English players look very questionable e.g. Ferdinand and James(that's a guess) and what appears to be supposed to be Gerrard. Becks looks mint though, what's the bets they modelled him first?

From all the info it sounds great. Looks like we'll have to wait a few years longer for official names and kits then :(

It says "Arsenal" there on the big screen. Not sure of whether this implies licences.

Heskey manages to score!

You mustn't have very good eye sight then... 1-Seaman, 2-?, 3-?, 4-Luzney, 5-Cole, 6-Ljunberg, 7-Owen's arm's in the way, 8-?, 9-Pres, 10-Bergkamp, 11-Wiltord... I think. Why the hell are they there when England are playing Germany, would've been cool to have interactive scoreboards, replays on large screen too.

=======================

"July 10, 2003 - As the Japanese release of Winning Eleven 7 nears, Konami Europe has officially announced Pro Evolution Soccer 3 for the European market. As anticipated, the much-overhauled game will be released in the crowded month of November instead of October. PES3 will be the same game as WE7, fully localized of course with stats and roster updates.

KCET has gone to town with improvements. Nearly 80% of the in-game animations have been re-done. There's a new graphics engine in place, which we saw glimpses of in Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution. The graphics are noticeably sharper and detailed this time. Players' facial animation will reflect the proceedings on the pitch. There's far more accurate player faces too. Many players will have custom animations and the level of animation has been greatly improved over the previous versions. There are 20 stadiums in total (including Anfield and Stamford Bridge). Depending how well you play, the stadiums will either be full or half empty, the crowds will change from match to match to reflect your success. The crowds will also wear proper clothing depending on the weather.

There are 64 club teams, but we haven't got all these confirmed. There will be quite a few new English and Spanish teams, which have been the most requested. Lovers of skilled but violent Turkish football will be happy to know that Galatasaray -- Fenerbache match-up will be possible.

Finally, Konami is including an option to play as a single player in the team instead controlling each player. This will be a true test of how well the improved AI will work. There is NO online play and there is NO mention of online updates for Europe. According to our sources, downloadble roster and stat updates will be available in the Pal version. We sure hope so.

A very Japanese sounding option, which has been curiously absent from the game so far, is a thing called the "WE Shop." As you gain points in the Master League by winning and scoring, you gain points that you can spend in the WE Shop. Here you can buy new players, stadium effects, teams, players, strategies and, we are excited about this, hair styles, rewarding the player for prolonged play. So playing the Master League for the umpteenth season will still be opening up new elements in the game.

From the outset, Pro Evolution Soccer 3's improvements are obvious. The game's menu screens have been simplified to cater for the wealth of new modes on offer. In addition to the series' renowned cup tournaments, friendly matches and a new, four divisions Master League, KCE TYO has also added a 'Shop' element to the game. This adds additional depth to the series, as players accumulate points via the training and exhibition modes. These in turn can be traded for new stadiums, crowd effects, teams, players, strategies and hairstyles, rewarding the player for prolonged play.

The controls have been improved as well. Players have more control over their long-range efforts and there's various new dribbles as well. A very welcome feature is that referees are able to play the advantage. This means that while your player has been fouled, you are in an attacking position, the play will go on. This is a difficult thing to implement properly, so IGN is very curious to see how this feature will work. Fatigue can also be switched on and off.

As the team in Tokyo is slavering away doing 18 hour days to finish the game, IGN is looking forward to sampling the game very soon indeed...
