There are a lot of players who have this skill.

These are a list of players (who I know of, so far) that have the "Middle shooting" star ability:

Steven Gerrard;
Frank Lampard;
Wayne Rooney;
Adriano;
Park Ji-Sung;
Cristiano Ronaldo;
David Beckham.

I think there's a lot more though. You just have to a good look around in the edit mode.

I thought R2 was for a side-footed curling shot which I have used many times, and it also looks superb and realistic. I just can't imagine scoring a 40 yard side foot, can you ?

Also, Paul Scholes is sure to have it is he not. I scored a 40 yarder with him against Middlesbrough about 2 weeks ago.

How does that R2 curling shot work exactly? Does it only work when you try to "pass" the ball into the goal?

The R2 shot works great I find, I generally use it just outside the box at an angle. But if you use the R2 button, they use the inside of there foot very realistically like in real-life. Then you just press a directional button to add more curl onto the shot.
