my headache is on the head

I have a huge headache on Pes5. I find strongly difficult to make a goal by hitting with head. I mean, when you make a pass to the penalty area, with Circle, most of times I can´t get to head the ball, and the few times I manage to do it, it almost always go outside, up the top bar, too high, or even sometimes too weak and the goalkeeper gets it.

So, i ask you to give some advice on how to correctly hit the ball with head by a striker, after a high pass with Circle, and how to have more chances of scoring. Please explain all movements and buttons pressed (as I have tried most combinations of buttons, movements, etc.. and I can´t get to it)

Sorry for my english, i´m Spanish. Thnx

Try to press Circle (My shoot button) as you would if you were to head the ball in real life. It's all about timing. Press too late & your player will probably volley or miss it. Hit too early & you'll miss it or won't get a good enough connection on it.

as mr love said it's all about timing try crossing the ball at different speeds like tapping cross twice the harder and more direct cross is the less effort you have to put on you'r headder.

Yep, I know that timing could be the key just in the moment the player hits the ball with the head. I have big problems in this issue, as I find very very difficult to push Square (shot) in the exact moment.

But, perhaps the major problem is to go with my player to the right position in which he should hit the ball with the head and make so a precise shoot. It´s difficult for me to get to the right position in which the player, when jumping, would hit the ball with precision and strength. I know that many people use R2 to move the player, but, despite I try it, in most cases the defender gets earlier to the ball.

In the cases in which I get to the ball and hit it with head, I almost always send the ball out of field, up, very high, and with little strength , as if it was making a curve, a lob with head.

So, the problem I find on Head shooting is that it´s very difficult to make a shoot with head with precision and strength. As all the times that I head the ball, it goes whenever it wants, despite the direction I pressed and when it goes in the direction of goal, it goes soooooo weak…

Another thing to be aware of is that the auto-select often selects a player in a worse position than someone else. Make suire you react quickly to get the best player to get on the end of the cross.

Do you mean I should select manual change of controlled player? or even a low automatic one? I was also thinking about this. Perhaps a manual selection culd be better in these chances, but when the CPU makes a pass, you´ll have to push another more button.

Carlos, I feel you man. Heading on PES5 is much harder than on previous editions. I used to score 80% of my goals with headers on PES4, even with players who weren't that great in the air. Now it's down to 20%. R2 and timing are important, but it also depends on the type of cross and who's crossing it. A player with good long pass speed and accuracy hit's the best crosses. If the cross is too slow, it's easy for defenders to pick-off. One little tip I picked up, is to check back instead of crossing first time, wait a second and then play the ball in. If you're playing 4-4-2, the left sided midfielder/winger seems to make a good run into the box for a free header. I've scored loads of goals like that, regardless of the fact that my left sided players don't have heading stats much over 70.

I find crossing using O twice and then heading at the right time seems to get me the right results.

I meant that where you use auto or semi or manual, if you force a change of player at the time the ball comes in, sometimes you will find a player better placed to head the ball than the one automatically given to you. I also use super-cancel sometimes to run onto the ball or to get in front of a marker.

I beg your pardon?

Think about where the recieving player is, and use R2 to move him to recieve the ball in a better position.
The ball in has to be quality, and he has less chance of getting good contact if he is marked.
Think, in real football, not that many goals are scored from headers from wide crosses. Yes they are scored, but not often. For a winger to get the ball onto a strikers head in a good scoring position from 20+ yards every time is near impossible (in life or game).
If something happens (or doesn't) in PES5, it's because it usually happens in reality.
Take a ball out and try to pull off some of the stuff you get your digital players to do and you'll realise it's not that easy.

Yeh it is all about timing, but getting a decent ball in is more than half the trouble for most people..

What you need to do is think of the penalty area as ya D-Pad, and wherever you want to play the ball to is in relation to a direction on the pad.

Say you were on the bottom of the screen (the right of the penalty area), Up-Left would (if a player is near enough to that spot) play the ball long and to the back of the box. Down-Left would play a shorter ball in - good for vollies or if your man is short (near post).

The Diagram is woefully shoddy, but you should get my drift. If you try it out you WILL see instant results for the success rate of headers. it's like the game allows you to get the head on it because you've shown you've meant the cross.

well use the shoddey diagram above correctly and you shouldnt have any problems, you should be scoring headers 4 times of 10 (still low, but they jip you like that anyway). They will tend to go alot more to the heads of your attackers than maybe they would normally.)
