The Boss
At this week's E3 conference in Los Angeles, Konami has made the shock announcement that we will not see another installment of Pro Evolution Soccer until January 2007. But, never fear, because it was then later announced this only applies to the game in the North American regions. Europeans will still see the game this coming October.

Gamespot UK said:
LOS ANGELES--Konami has announced that the next installment in its football series will launch in January 2007 on PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, PC, Xbox 360 and DS. The game will be called Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 internationally and will have offer a number of improvements that include new international teams and play modes.

Konami has promised that the game will offer faster gameplay, as players make runs without the ball, identify opportunities and point to where they want the ball delivered. Defenders will jockey for position and strikers will work to turn their opponent as they receive the ball, as well as taking more snap shots and precision volleys.

Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 will also offer new play modes, including an international challenge with four continents to play through, a random match selector that will create a team of players at random from a chosen league or area, and a master league mode that will last longer than before.

Konami has managed to acquire more international licences for the title, so Argentina, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden will all have the correct player names. There will be more club teams with accurate details when the game is released next year. We'll get an early play of the game at Konami's booth when it opens tomorrow, so we'll update you with our impressions shortly.
One thing that has crossed my mind is that although Gamespot now has a UK branch, I suspect this news story is available throughout their site... which could just possibly mean they are talking about the American release and not the European release. This remains to be seen. Either way what does seem evident is that the game will not be carrying the title of PES6, but instead following the FIFA franchise by titling games with a year. Let's just hope the gameplay doesn't follow suit as well.

Is it just me or did I just read that PES6 will be called "Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007"?

It's a shite name if you ask me. :shocking:

In terms of the release date, well I don't really mind the wait. I've got WE10 to keep me occupied for the time being.

But, how come it doesn't mention anything about the PS3? I thought Konami would only delay the release if they were dead set on a PS3 release of PES.

They game is either going to be called WE2007 or PES2007, but my question is: then there is not going to be pro evo 6?

Well, at least PES 2007 is a decent name compared to "Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007".

And @ Zygalski, this news will definitely push up the sales of WE10. ;)

I am pretty confident we will still see a release in Europe in October time.

I agree, I've been trying to read into what they've said (I may have read too many Microsoft statements so am trying to read between the lines! :) ) and they did say the "next installment". As WE10 is out now then PES6 COULD potentially already be made and ready for release before the World Cup (this would make sense as losing out on a marketing opportunity like the World Cup would indicate they weren't in need of any more money). If PES6 was already made then WE:pES2007 would be the "next installment" as the present installment would be PES6, it's just not been released yet.

I am ready to be flamed for this hard-to-follow, conspiracy thinking of mine, as I said, I'm just used to reading between the lines of Microsofts deliberately cryptic statements. :)

Judging by the description it does sound like it will be PES6 (or whatever they choose to call it) released in Jan 07 on the PS2 and Xbox 360. I can only think the delay is due to the upgrade that the 360 will demand.

Where does this obsession with faster gameplay come from?

I mean, the series is popular because it doesn't go down the fifa-arcadey route. Volleys etc are good because they aren't easy to pull off.. OK, lots of things could be tweaked to be better, but I really hope they don't ruin it. If I want to play something fast, I'll play NewStarSoccer3 or Sensi!! I think they should emphasise the pace and flow of the game, ie, often slow and messy, occasionally quick breaks and so on. My heart sinks a little, reading this.. I hope it doesn;t need to.

THANK YOU! NO FASTER GAMEPLAY!!!

I know most likely nobody here is into American Football, but I used to buy 2K's version of American Football "ESPN NFL2K," and they had two versions of gameplay, "Sim-style" and "Arcade Mode." ESPN NFL2K was built from the ground up to play like a Sim, but offered an Arcadey style for the people who wanted lots of scoring and faster play. Why can't Konami follow suit? Keep it real. Build PES/WE to play like a Sim, but offer an Arcade mode with tweaked speed, shooting accuracy, and skills to satisfy those types of gamers.

I cant see there bieng a delay, and Hitmans conclusions make the most logical sense, also since WE10 is out earlier, i would have thought the same for PES6, but if you look at play.com and others its october, and im pretty sure nothing has changed, unless its the 360 version, or psp one with a slight delay.

The new name is rubbish, but as all things, you get used to it.
I really hope pes dosent follow fifa cause though the game is still the best football title available, the franchise has been stale, there is hardly any new changes each year, and without online play, pes5 would have been on the waste side by now. (For me ofcourse)

I agree 100%. For me the pace of PES5 is about right, any faster would be too arcadey with the ball ping-ponging around all over the place. Ok, the Premiership is played at a fast pace but in many other leagues like Serie A and La Liga the pace is alot slower. So Konami should definately take the 'sim' route as thats why we all love their game.

Got to agree on this one mate!

FFS... Off course we all want a new game as soon as possible, but tbh I think that what we are are waiting and searching for is to be found in a PS3 game box! How come there aren't any news about that ? *Confused*
