Off on hols to USA, PSP questions, super size burgers

So yeah

Im going there in a few weeks for a few weeks and am thinking of getting a PSP to avoid getting ass raped by prices whe it comes out in about 2008 or whenever.

I've been a googlying and whatnot but i didn;t really find much.

On with the questions

- Will a US PSP be compatible with online/net/wifi/multiplayer or whatever over yonder youk (UK) with UK stuff? Actually just tell me everything you know about multiplayer

- Tax and customs and all that bullshit, will i be able to simply walk back through customs with it in my pocket and go to the security "Sup dawg, im gonna play this on the flight, k?" or will they go "$$$ plz" and steal it and just rape me.

I have more questions I think

Oh yus,

- Emulation, now I've been on proper sites and this is all ok and whatnot but most of the "Homebrew" community have made thingies for PSP's with 1.5 build or some bollocks, yet the new ones have 1.51 or some other poop. Anyone know anything on this in the slightest?

-us compatable with uk: at the moment they should but sony in there wizdom could put coding in to europen games meaning they will only play on eu units, and considering sony are prosuicuting importers at the moment this looks likly

Someone I knew tried to get an emulator on his PSP, I would consider him pretty good with computers but even he gave up, from what I can tell it didn't seem that hard but was only difficult because he couldn't find proper directions.

On Florida- yes

The thing about the emulating difficulty, (Oh, and anything "Pre PS1 is all kosher" apparantly, whatever, I'm 100% confident that it's all legit in theory) is that the first load of PSP's had this 1.5 build, so everything was made for that build.

Sony now go and put 1.51 on all new models so everyone's fooked for the time being until someone makes a downgrade and to make things worse Sony are releasing the 2.0 build on the 27th.

That is my basic grasp of the whole thing.

Oh and Hitman, aye, that seems sound, hopefully they wont get all miffy and ask questions and anal probe.

Aye, but I'm going over there and buying in America so I should be ok with that, and I shall just tell customs "Got it from a site in Uk, k?"

What I want to know is if anyone knows anything about the multiplayer shit and downloadable content crap.

Customs - just put it in your suitcase and forget about it. If you get pulled say it was a gift. Dont whatever you do admit that you bought it in the US or you may have to pay duty on it. But on the other hand dont lie.

Gosh darn, the flight is like 3 days, I need the PSP and it's 3 hour battery to take up some time.

Pretty much yes. Basically avoid answering that particular question ie "where did you get this"

What I am trying to say is they will be able to tell by serial numbers etc that the console was bought in USA and if they start checking things and find out that you are lying then the rubber gloves could come out as they look for other things. I would say it was a gift from someone who is not travelling with you and where they got it from you have no idea.

But I would definitely keep it in your case as there is less chance of them finding it. Without being racist though you shouldnt have a problem coming back from the States. They are looking for people of Arab appearance at the moment.

Then again the Americans couldnt give a damn its the British customs that may have a problem with it - I really dont think they would care about it as its not like smuggling and the duty would only be 10% of the purchase value.

Gah, you told me not to lie, now I'm saying i've been given gifts from people of where I don;t know where it came from. Plus I'm shitty at lies like that, I could go "Yeah, got it imported, nice piece of kit", aye, that'd be alright, keep it short and whatnot.

Anyone if it is caught it'd only be the price of a cheap Uk game, still, money is a tad tight, rather spend it on cases of Mountain Dew in the US

The minute you say that you got it imported then they will check it out - that is as good as an admission of something. If you are staying with people over there get one of them to go to the shop and buy it and at customs - if asked - say you were given it - that is not a lie (just dont mention that you gave that person money first)

I wouldnt tell them anything at all but if you insist on taking it on board the plane then they may ask. The idea was if someone else physically bought it then you may feel better saying that someone gave it to you (easier lie as someone did give it to you so you could convince yourself).

I wouldnt worry too much its only the same as bringing tshirts etc home from holiday. They arent going to be interested in a games console.
