I will apologise before writing my post (again) for it being a bit basic but I just wrote in detail my view but when I post it said I had timed-out so it stole my post. I am very annoyed because it had everything I wanted to say in it and now I can't really be bothered.
Time-outs are pintless if you ask me.

Ok, basically I've being playing PES3 for about 3-4 weeks since I bought it for my birthday and I'm in my 5th season with Barcelona (not that which team you start with matters). I've won all league and cups in the 1st division on 5 stars after starting on 3.
I read in some playing guide that one you have it on 5 stars you should find it really hard anfd once you get to 3-0 you should portect your lead to make sure you don't give it away.
Well thats just not true! I beat Valencia 5-0, Celta Vigo 6-0, Real Madrid 4-0 and AC Milan. It's not that uncommon for me to win comfortably.
Even when a team gets a freak goal that they don't deserve then it doesn't matter for I'm already either a couple up or capable of getting 1 back, or 2, or once I got 4 in the last 15 mins of a game.
I do play 15 mins per game but I don't know if thats longer compared to most or what.

My team is pretty good but no better from AC, Real, or Man Utd seen as though they have acquired some good players aswell.

My team is;

GK- Toldo

CBT- F. De Boer
CBT- Samuel
CBT- Puyol

DMF- Didu (from the classic brazil team)
DMF- Lampard
SMF(L)- Rivaldo
SMF(R)- Ronaldinho
OMF- Gullit

FW- Henry
FW- Chiesa

Subs- Overmars, Signori, Lobont, P. Andersson, Duff, Riquelme, Ghione, Makalele

I would just like this game to be harder without having to play with lesser players, any ideas?

Give the players of all the top teams the "marking" special ability. It means that you get less space and time on the ball. Someone said this before but I can't remember who.

Cheers everyone who has replied so far.

ashmufc, I'll try playing on 4* again as I can see your logic. I noticed on 5* that it does make a lot of difference to the CPU's movement offf the ball when in possession, this won't help their defensive position when I steal the ball and break. So it may work to bring my scores down.

worldrecord50leagues, if I do this to a number of players and not just to defenders but also defensive midfielders it might mean I don't have go down to 4* and miss the added challenge of more off the ball runs.
Good suggestion thanks.

sheringham316, I've wanted to try we7i but has of yet to do so. Now you have said that it is harder I will probably buy it and will forget about my reservations about buying a game which is essentially the same as another game I own. I'm sure I could find one second-hand on ebay or whatever, I don't look forward to editing/personalising all the names again of the teams and players.

Actually while I'm on the subject des anyone know anyways of downloading or transferring player archetypes to the PS2?
There are a lot of players that I need to put on but don't want to start from scratch because to do them all would take too long and to do just a few seems pointless. I did quite well for Beattie but that was for England and now I want to change club teams. Again, any suggestions? as I'm not overly clued up on such things and have mainly concentrated on playing since purchasing the game.
Another question is; Can I play online with my PS2 as I do with 'Ghost Recon: JS'? If not can you do so on the PC as I'm willing to purchase the game to do so?

Just to go back to worldrecord50leagues suggestion. It made me remember hearing about a cheat that increases every players rating by 5pts, or it may of been everyone on a team. But if I do that once to every team aswell as the 'special marking ability' then it may make things more interesting. If I do it more than once then the players that have already reached the maximum or very close to it won't feel as much benefit from doing it again and everyone would be good which then changes the game play.
But will increasing all a players ratings just increase HIS play and just make him better? or will it change is overall game strategy and stop him being reminiscent of the player he is supposed to be?

For downloading rosters on your PS2, here are some neat links. You can also check the XPORT related topics in this forum. Oh by the way, yea that's what you need to do, XPORT lets you transfer files between PS2 and PC.

http://perso.numericable.fr/~ryannick/ (nice editor to use on PC, you can make the changes you want, to your default or downloaded files)

http://www.showusmiracle.com roster updates to download, not very good but better than the default i guess

Thanks again everyone for your replies.
I've visited the main site since asking about transferring info to your PS2 and now feel kind of dumb seen as its right there on the homepage, but I got a direct link to the forums off google and registered that way so unfortunatly I missed it.
However it still must of been an annoying question to have and I was surprised to see anyone reply after I saw the info on the main site.
I've read through a few threads here and these boards have a lot of helpful users. I've found reading a lot of the threads here for player stats that I've changed, kits and game tips has helped my game enjoyment already.

worldrecord50leagues, we all have days like that and then something good happens like Chelsea beating Arsenal it makes it all better....unless you wanted Arsenal to win obviously.

say HTFC do u ever play with ur mates? if u do, do u really tear them apart? I'm asking because -
a. from my experience, when I was playing a lot against the CPU my mates kicked my bum when we played. we I stopped playing the CPU I got back to winning against human opponents. so...try playing with friends, it's a different thing.
b. WE7I is different - and harder - u can't dribble and steal the ball easily like in PES3, but if u win 5-0 6-0 in 5* mode it might not help u, so my advise is that u try playing it in a sony store next to ur house, check it out for a couple of hours before spending money on it.
good luck

I play sometimes against them but they aren't big footy fans and are not the best footy sim gamers, they prefer blowing shit up on GTA3vc.
It is harder though like you say, but my scores aren't that far from what they are against the computer just that I have to use different methods.
When you play the CPU a lot you come a customed to its play and can predict it better than that of a person. Plus a person can change their own methods of approach and to my knowledge they haven't made real AI yet.

I've been updating my teams and players like mad recently (since I first came here actually, it must be catching) and improving the average skill of a player but always trying to keep them good at the same stuff and not totally change their style of play.
It's helped a lot because I actually lost in the semi-final of WEFA cup and nearly lost the league so I think that once I have every team looking like I want it, it will be a lot harder game. I bet though by the time I finsih the transfer season will start again and then the editing starts again.

As for WE7i, I'm getting more an more curious about it and am deffonately going to try it out and then get it second hand if I buy it.

I have never played PES3 so i can't compare, but I'm also in my 5th Barca season on WI7i. I have the same general problem. I don't ever win 6-0, but i rarely lose. I am getting a bit frustrated with a lack of new challenges. I wouldn't recomend getting WI7i. I feel like the difficulty in dribling and tackling come from the cpu unfairly muscling you around. there is no way to shield the ball from them, while they will sometimes push through 2 defenders alongside and a clean tackle from the front. this small difference makes the game harder, but not in a particularly enjoyable way. sell off that superstar squad and save yourself 40 bucks
