pes defence system is broken or unfinishedand we all know it. Sure it was better than last year but the cpu decided whn to stick a leg out to take the ball and to be honest if you stick a leg out - players like heskey will speed burst you or ronaldo chop you or if you go in for the slide. I think it is hard to tackle an agile player using speed bursts but not slow old players that can't accelerate and they do it all the time. in the pes world, the key to defend and no concede is to hold up play until you have enough men back to commit to challenges which is half right half wrong in the football world. You can't actually stand tackle from forward or back and every time you slide tackle the com is in favour of dodging you.
I don't see the points of playcards like trickster when anyone can trick your defense if you don't use hold-up play all the time.

alot more thought has to go into defending this year... simple as that, and i speak from experience, see sum of my earlier posts wer i was slaggin it off to death, but i knuckled down and took it on the chin that i was shit at this new game, but then it just clicked, i got out of 2011 mode and am now winning and stopping barca, maybe not with ease but certainly controlling my defence to stop them, once again i am amazed with the new edition as in previous years, its been improved is all i can say, and i only play online btw

I've been winning from the beginning; I'm winning now, and I think it's PURE SHIT. And I use a regular team (They're good, don't get me wrong, but not like the teams you see every other game)

You PES-defenders need to come with a new line. You think everyone who slags the game is losing/shitty. Not true at all.

Makavelian is correct.

Playing online can be incredible, but only when you've got two good players using non-superteams, with pass assistance on zero, trying to play realistically. The difference between that and the fully-assisted, 100mph-pressure, speed-merchant hell of most online games is so great it boggles the mind.

Anyway, as soon as you pick those 5-star teams the game automatically becomes arcadey. Any attempt at a slow, patient, tactical game with those teams turns out like some kind of sped-up circus show, whatever you do. Their skills and speed are just so pumped up that it's pretty much impossible to get a decent, realistic game out of them - they're only really any good for 14-year-old inadequates who have no interest in playing a representation of football, only winning at a video game. Those Barca freaks are like an 80s caricature of a gamer, staring blank and glassy-eyed as they blast away at identical ranks of Space Invaders. Hate to be them.

Pass assistance is the other thing. A 1v1 game on zero bars is a thing of beauty (once you're used to it, and stop sending simple 5-yard passes slamming into the advertising hoardings). You have to work for every goal, the final ball becomes all-important and requires real concentration, the game has a realistic stop-start flow that you just don't get when you use any kind of pass assist. But the only way to get regular zero-assist games is to join an online league like PEEL, because you sure as shit aren't getting them in the regular lobbies, and it'll be a chilly night in hell before you get one in MLO.

PES2012 online is weird. Depending on who you play, which teams you use and how you have your assists set up, it's like four or five completely different football games. All but one of those games are appalling, but I reckon one is the best of all time. The fact that 99% of people on PES online would rather shave their balls with a cheesegrater than play it, just in case they don't win - that says something pretty rough about humanity.

@Halfrax,

I dont really agree with you on that. I think you are to much and idealist, which is fine, but not very realistic when it comes to online gaming with people you don't know. I am not a good player, i'm rated between 520-560 most of the time. I try not to play Barca to much, so usually I pick Spurs, Bayern or the Netherlands. I have Pass assistance on, fully on. That is because i want the ball to go to the player I aim for. When I'm in a counterattack, passing comes precize. I hate it when the trough ball is wrong, simply because I pressed the analog stick a little bit to far to the left. According to you, that sort of makes me a bad person.

According to you, playing 5 star teams is no fun, and to arcadey. Though I agree it is a bit boring so many people pick Barca, I don't really see it as a problem. I find Barca-Real matches great, when both players are equal quality, trying to make goals and rush forwared. Then u get a Chelsea-Arsenal-like match from last night. Nothing wrong with that imo. I personally find that more attractive gameplay then let's say Celtic-Rangers, when both players very patiently build up, passing the ball from CV to RB->CV->LB->CM->CV->RB etc, untill they find a gap for a trough ball. Maybe for you this is the right way to play it, but for many others it is not. And if I'm in the mood for a slow build-up game, I just play very defensive with a team like Stoke City. Then I have no trouble with the pressure from a team like Barca.

Doesn't make you a bad person, just means you have no right to complain about unrealistic or high-scoring games. If you gave every footballer some kind of computer chip which meant their passes were always accurate, football would look totally different. Watch a (non-Barca) match and see how many passes go astray, all the time, even with Champions League level teams. That's why highly-skilled playmakers are so important, that's why the final ball is the hardest and most important pass in the game, that's why an ambitious pass out of midfield which comes off perfectly makes you sit up straight and catch your breath, because suddenly there's a real momentum to the attack. Passing over more than 10 yards is not always easy, mis-hit passes are a HUGE part of football (specifically, the contrast between mis-hit passes and a good one), and if that's not replicated in a computer game then that computer game is a non-starter in terms of simulating the sport.

That's not really what I'm saying, and if you think an Old Firm game, or something involving Stoke City are good examples of a "slow build-up" match then I'm not sure what to say. Celtic v Rangers should be 100mph - but those teams don't have the skills of a Barca or a Milan, so the result is a bit of a thrash. Stoke might sit deep, but they attack quickly and directly.

You SHOULD be able to use 5-star teams without the game getting unrealistically fast and arcadey... it's a major failing of Konami's that you can't. Those teams are just overpowered in the game. That's what I'm saying here.

The way I like to play online isn't necessarily about Spanish-style slow passing and build up anyway. It can be, but it doesn't have to be. I've had end-to-end Premier League style games too, real physical battles. The point is, when you play vs simulation players without all that daft computer assistance and not using super-teams (and like I said, you don't get this much online, you have to join a private community or a league like PEEL), you can do what you want - but doing what you want will pan out more realistically, it won't just be about laser-guiding 90mph passes to Usain Bolt in football boots.
