PES 2011 PS2, anyone?

Has anyone got this, and how does it compare to next gen. As previously stated been on a bit of football rampage this last month, coming from PES2011 PS3, to trying PES6 XBox, then purchased PS2 in a nostalgic moment to play PES5....then played PES6. I understand many see PES5 as the ultimate football challenge, but I think PES6 is the best in the series. Which brings me onto whether or not I should get PES2011 PS2.

PES2011 is fantastic, with the out of the box game. Player responsiveness is brilliant, I just can't play with any option file as it breaks the game and renders it impossible to play and sluggish. But the out of the box version on Top Player is a little too easy, so I switched back to PES6 (fk me I can't remember this being this good, I also remember PES5 as the one I spent most time on, but for me, right me, I'm hooked on PES6 PS2).

So what is the PS2 version of 2011 like, anybody? If it plays like PES6 in terms of responsiveness, then I'm sold, so any thoughts would be appreciated?

PS

On a side note, how could Konami go from PES5-6, onto the shit that followed, it just doesn't make sense. My first game with Merseyside Red (later Liverpool) yesterday I was flabbergasted at the quality of detail on the PS2. The supporters in the crowd at the top of the screen, the stadium I mean, looked just like Anfield on the tele. Crowd was excellent, gameplay superb, shooting fabulous, control excellent, CPU challenging in both offence and defence. And then the next games.....doesn't make sense!

on the ps2 , pes 6, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 all play about the same - give or take a few tweaks. 2011 is very similar to pes 6 to me.

I too have ditched the next gen games and gone back to the ps2. Graphics suck, but enjoyable gameplay is all the matters

As an add point to my opening post, and just something to share with everyone, I had fourteen consecutive 15 minute games on PES6 yesterday! I was just so hooked. Can't remember it being this good, in fact I seem to remember spending most of my time on PES5. But honestly, absolutely loved it.

Things that make it stand out from PES2011 (I know it's treading old ground, sorry)
1) Every game consistent in terms of responsiveness
2) You can actually hold the ball and play a tight control individual game
3) Gameplay changes in pace, can be slow and methodical periods, and then bam a midfield battle for about twenty seconds where everything is frantic
4) CPU build up play and threat - quite simply light years ahead of PES2011. In fourteen games yesterday I didn't once feel cheated by a scripted silly through ball. CS Sedan scored a classic goal on the counter against me. 2-0 down from the first leg, scored a goal and was pushing for the equaliser, changed tactics to attack and pressure, had a half chance because of it, but overcommitted. They countered, managed to usher winger I thought out of danger, normally on 2011 the guy would just lose the ball or do something silly, but he waited, waited, put a lovely little dink ball into the centre, their striker volleyed to finish off. IT WAS SUBLIME, it was so good I watched the reply again and again. A wonderful trade off in tactics that if I do X and try and get a chance and over-commit, Y may happen.
5) This is going to sound really, really pathetic, but I just love the Red Cauldron stadium, graphically next gen may have it all, but the stadium feel is incredible. The top of the screen crowd looks EXACTLY like Anfield does on tele, when I play at Red Cauldron (Anfield), I feel like I'm playing home, the atmosphere and crowd effects are just fabulous.
6) Just a general all round point, almost everything about PES6 PS2 is spot on. The trade off between slow build up play and yet exciting pace play, keepers are excellent, shooting fantastic, long balls/lob balls feel great, defending is an art, you defend well you get a clean sheet it's that simply, no cheating AI shit that you can easily detect, player movements are just stunning.

I'm 29 and should get a life/do some gardening/go to pub/take gf shopping or some shit this bank holiday - I'll be trawling through negotiations and preparing to start my Prem League campaign though!

I've never been one to harp to the past, I gave PES2011 a fair long shot. I've played hundreds of hours, I know where the game excels, I know where the game is poor. For me it's as far as I can take it. If they bring out a PES2012 out of the box game like 2011 but much harder, I'll be pleased, if the edit thing goes to shit again and renders the game useless then I won't.

One last point and I've raised it lots so people are probably bored to tears, is that I can't believe as a gaming community how softened we've become. I'll raise my glass to anyone who can switch from PES2011 to PES5 and say PES2011 is harder. I've realised over the last few days how assisted, how held by the hand we've become in terms of games, especially sports ones, and especially football ones. The AI on PES6 for example is simply excellent, with CPU players holding the ball up, hitting gaps at pace, exploiting and overlaps, and dinking lovely passes here and there, PES2011 is just lame scripting/cheating to get silly goals.

PES2012 had better blow my mind, I'll buy it no doubt. I'm not one of these who say fk KONAMI and fk EA, but then buy it anyway. I love football, so I want to see what they offer year on year, but I'e just re-discovered the game of my heart, PES6 is giving me a fking great time at the moment! I've never been so excited than when the delivery man brought the PS2 that I ordered to the house last week, sad or what!! For now, my PS3, Xbox and Wii, can gather dust, I've got Sissoko to sell and some Japanese fast winger to buy lol!!!

Here is the best advice I can give anyone today, regarding football games.

tech has said just about everything about today's game's and I have to agree 110%, the gaming industry has just become (and I can't find a better word other than....) corrupt.

Anyone who doesn't believe that, then you have become so brainwashed by it all, you don't atcually know what the F*CK is going on, or what a good game atcually is. You are being robbed every single year on the majority of the games you get.

Wake up and smell the coffee folks!

But yes, back to my point, this is what you need to do.

1) Get yourself a PS2 (If you have not got one still)
2) Get yourself a copy of PES6 (If you have not got it)
3) Get yourself a PS2 Max Drive
4) Download johnlennon's classic file
5) Play

I myself used to edit OF's back on PES6, I believe I managed to create the best file using Pategato & Goalgerd's OF as a base, I added so much to it at the time, it really was the best out there. The problem is now, yes, you can still download it, but it is very out of date. (It's a shame there isn't people out there now still editing PES6 uptodate)

But with the classic file you get nostalgia, how can it be out of date really? EVERY TEAM has been replaced with classic teams, created teams made classic teams, the lot!

Batistuta, Ronaldo, Zidane, Maradona, Pele, Platini, Dalglish, Barnes.

All the great teams and players we have witnessed down the years are there.

I never really bothered with this file back in 06/07 because I was using a uptodate file to match the time, but now the classic file is very very very important for me.

I booted the ol' PS2 up a few weeks back, downloaded the classic file, and I was away.

The fun I had and the nostalgia was all brought back.

What a great game, the best.

When you compare PES6 to 2011 do you mean the PS2 version of 2011 or the next-gen?

Both really. The 2011 PS3 version suffers from just silly scripting and the through balls are a nightmare both for and against you. The 2011 PS2 version, I gave that a fair go but the keepers seem awful. Honestly how many goals I conceded from really tame shots from around 25 yards out is nobodies business, if they were rifled in it would be something, but when tame shots are constantly beating Reina for example, I just couldn't play it.

PES6, for me, has the lot. An alive stadium, decent commentary, top notch ball physics, periods of slow-frantic play, wonderful responsiveness that balances dribbling and passing...I could go on.

During my month of football madness I played the lot, all the PES on next gen, all the FIFA's on next gen, PES6 Xbox 360, PES2011 PS2, WE9LE on PC (patched) and they all pale into insignificance when compared to PES6, PS2.

What are your thoughts on PES 5 on PS2 compared to 6? I've played both to death over the years and I just love 5 a bit more than 6. I know the niggly fouls are annoying sometimes but the passing and pinball physics seem much more real and natural that the slower ball-trapping and passing of 6.

As stated, it's 6 for me. I just feel the AI attacks are a bit more sophisticated and more challenging. I feel like the CPU can create slick moves and score a nice variety of goals in 6. CPU cherish possession of the ball far more in 6 as well I believe. In the latest PES games I can keep possession at around the 70% even against the likes of Man U and Arsenal etc, in PES6 it's more around the 55% mark.

So yeah PES 6 for me, if they brought out PES 6, change the lineups etc, and made it HD, I'd pay £100 for it.
