PES Newby - Defending the Cutback Goal

Its great to finally join the PES revolution!!

Am picking the game up fairly well after a couple of weeks gaming but really struggling to defend against cutback goal, particularly stopping the supply from the wings.

One of my more experienced gamers told me to play as Inter initially and I tend to play 4-4-2 with a fairly narrow midfield four which is most likely my problem when defending but i find it easier to attack this way.

Any advice? - am i going in with the wrong formation? wrong team?

HELP!!

The best way to defend it is to stop the opponent from getting that far down the wings from the start, cutting off their passing route (there will usually be one really obvious one, but it's often f*cking nigh impossible to get any of your players to go there and STAY there), and make sure you have a strong CB marking the man in the middle. It's absurdly hard to *actually* defend the cutback once it has happened, though. The cutback is pretty much PES' interpretation of "Back-Back-A" with Scorpion in the old Mortal Kombat games.

I like a team with defenders AND at least one deep DMF with the "Covering" special ability, as I find it often makes it much more difficult for the gaps left by fullbacks to be exploited. Having someone already taking up position when the opponent starts one of those makes a big difference

If you're playing ML, just build your team. Playing with Inter is kinda dull. Try a team like Valencia or Juve. I usually find them to be tougher defensively than Inter/Barca, for some reason.

Cheers fella.

Knew I could rely on a Villa fan for some good advice!! (being a claret and blue season ticket holder myself).

Might try a standard 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 formation to give extra cover out wide (which is where I seem to get out numbered) and get some pace in the team cos Inter are a bit slow.

As The Eristic said. But remember that pes 2008 is not very good at defence. Juve are awesome at defending because of Sissoko, Chiellini and Buffon (I know he's a golakeepr but he's awesome).

I'd go:

--------------------GK-----------------------
---RB----------CB---------CB---------LB-----
----------------DMF-------------------------
-----------------------DMF------------------
-------------------AMF----------------------
-------RWF--------------------------LWF-----
----------------------CF---------------------

The two DMF's cover your space in front of goal, and press out to the wings if need be and I've found allow you to play a really controlled, posessive game. Attacking isn't an issue with your deep laying wingers and an AMF, plus the DMF's allow your side-backs the opportunity to push down the wings.
