I'm disappointed to say that I cannot get PES2008 to run on my PC. I've installed it, checked for the latest version, updated my graphics card drivers (Nvidia 8800GTX), but when I click on 'Play', the screen goes black and after about 2 minutes, 'PES2008' appears in the bottom left corner of the screen as if the game is loading, but 10 mins later, nothing happens and I just have to shut down. Can anybody help me out with a little advice please?

I've a Pentium 4 with 1GB ram and Nvidia 8800 GTX.

Have you any novel USB devices such as bluetooth keyboards or speedpads...If so...try disabling them. I had to not use my wireless Logitech keyboard for the duration of the time it took for me to complete FEAR (on HARD of course). Otherwise game would run like shit.....why, I dont know.

Are you sure the entire game installed?

Sometimes it happens where the game isn't fully installed and then it won't run period..

Check your video card settings, any changes you've made since install that could be affecting?

Try shutting off all your background programs and maybe it is one of them causing the problem.

Yeah, I did the complete installation. I haven't changed any settings in the graphics card since installation. The same thing happened with the demo. I had to download a file called d3dx9_30.dll, but it still would not run. I'm at a loss. I'd have got the 360 version but I don't like using the 360 pad for Pro Evo.

When it goes black can you use ALT-TAB to switch out of it? Also, have you checked the Event Viewer (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools) to see if it is noticing any sort of error?

You're using Vista then? Try installing DX9 instead of doing that. Vista includes a version of it which apparently isn't quite compatible with DX9 games (yeah, I know, MICROSOFT...)
Instead of trying to solve the problem by copying a single file, try installing DX9 altogether. It won't mess up your DX10 and it has solved all my problems with non-DX10 games.

No, I'm not running Vista. XP. I wasn't aware that file was only to get the game running on Vista. Either way, with or without that file. The game won't run properly.

Okay, I tried running it again and after a minute looking at a black screen I used ALT-TAB to switch out of it and after a couple of mins, the game began to run. I have since discovered that when I run the game in a Window, as opposed to full-screen, I don't have any problems. If I switch back to full screen during a match, the game breaks down when goals are scored, or when a replay is about to occur.
i don't know why this is. As I said, it runs fine in a window. Does anybody know of a solution to this problem?

Very weird problem you're having. Considering it has to do with windowed mode / fullscreen, my guess would be that it is related to the graphics card, but I have an 8800 myself and it works perfectly. Perhaps the issue is related to NVidia XP drivers? Anyone out there with an 8800 and XP?

If you are desperate and have free time to spare, you can try using NVidia QUADRO drivers. At least when I tried them three months ago, they worked much better than the 8000 series drivers, had less problems and more compatibility. No guarantees though, as I don't know if the problem is actually related to the graphics card.
