Why does the crowd disapear during the game?
Firstly, Konami have confirmed that it isn't a bug. So why do they disapear? Well, the general concencus is that the crowd was removed from view during gameplay to prevent the slowdown effect. In PES4 while taking a corner the game could often slow to an unplayable level. It became evident this occured more often on stadiums where the crowd are close to the action. To counter the slowdown problem in Pro Evo 5, Konami have decided to remove the crowd completely. Some people have questioned why this is also the case on the PC version, despite it having more processing power, but the truth is that the PC version is just a very simple direct port of the PS2 game.
How do you patch?
The guide for patching Pro Evolution Soccer 5 can be found here. Patches for the PC version of the game should include individual readme files detailing how to complete the process.
A much easier method is to buy a Max Drive for £9.99 and then download an updated option file such as the PESFan ones. But these option files only contain data that can be edited ingame and will not include new music, backgrounds, pitch surfaces, stadia, chants and near-perfect kits made using paintshop or photoshop. For PES5 though the edit mode is very good and the ingame edited kits look great.
What connection do you need to play online?
You will need a connection speed with upload of AT LEAST 128k. Ideally your overall connection will be 1mb or above, though any broadband connection will work. You may well experience 'lag' when playing online. This is caused by either player using their connection elsewhere other than for the game. When playing online, if you can turn off your PC (unless playing on PC of course). Dial-up users can not play online.
What do the arrows mean next to players names on formation screen?
The arrows indicate the mood of the player. A player with a red or orange arrow will play considerably better than those with grey or blue arrows.
The following table, although from PES3, are the stat differences depending on which arrow for PES5.
